Not all books are sacred, though that may come as a surprise.

Some books get printed in such quantity that there are more than
enough for anyone really interested. Other books shouldn't have
been printed, so ripping them up won't mean a thing.

Reminds me of the flack one of the local used book sales has received
at times. People write letters to the paper complaining that they
are tossing books before the sale, the sale says they are damaged
or have no value. The people complaining likely do think that Alvin
Toffler's "Future Shock" is sacred no matter how many copies were
printed, and would apparently read the trashiest of junk, merely
   because they are books.
