   I never fought back against bullies because of our school's zero   
   tolerance policies-- if I hit back at a bully, my punishment would be   
   just as severe as the bully's.   
   Nowadays it's even worse as some schools will bring in the police for   
   fighting and have both parties charged.   
      
   In retrospect, I should have just hit them anyways and consequences be   
   damned.  My parents were of that hippie generation that taught to "just   
   ignore the bullies and they'll go away."  That is, of course, pure   
   bullshit, but that still hasn't stopped that particular fallacy from   
   going away.
