   Summary: I have news...   
   A/N: This is from a series of 500 word challenge prompts. This   
   challenge was the word "Lullaby".   
      
      
      
   John woke up to the sound of the mewling cry down the hall. Quietly   
   he crept out of his bedroom toward it.   
   	   
   "Hey buddy," he said softly as he reached into the crib and lifted   
   his newborn son up to his chest.   
      
   "We had a deal, remember. You'd let your momma sleep, if I promised   
   to come in and check on you," John said soothingly, trying to get   
   the one-month old back to sleep.   
      
   "Now what’s with all the cryin'?" he asked as he moved around the   
   room, gently rocking the baby to quiet him down.   
   	   
   "Okay, you don't need changin', and you’re not hungry, what's up?"   
   John only got an indignant cry for an answer.   
      
   "Not talkin' huh? That's okay. We can save the guy talk for later. I   
   know, how about I tell you a story? I bet you’d like that," John   
   said quietly. Brady seemed to quiet down at his dad's suggestion.   
      
   "Yeah, I knew you'd like that idea," he whispered as he continued   
   his one sided conversation with his son.   
      
   John wound the knob on the mobile above Brady's crib for background   
   music, and sat in the rocker. And as the Rock-a-bye baby tune gently   
   filled the room, John told his baby boy a story.   
      
   As Brady fell asleep to the sound of his father's voice, John gazed   
   upon him and remembered the day Monica told him they were going to   
   be parents. It was a Thursday evening and Monica came home to find   
   him relaxing on the couch. She was grinning happily he noticed.   
   	   
   >>"Hey darlin'," John greeted her as she came in and joined him on   
   the couch, resting herself above him.   
      
   "I have news," she whispered against his lips before greeting him   
   with a kiss. John closed his arms around her as they kissed.   
      
   "News huh? Lemme guess they shut down the X-Files, and we now have   
   normal jobs," John joked when they separated. Monica laughed.   
      
   "You'd like that wouldn't you?" she teased. "No this news is more   
   personal," she said and paused to look in his twinkling blue   
   eyes. "I’m pregnant," she said quietly.   
      
   John’s smile grew even bigger. "Pregnant, really?" he whispered.   
      
   Monica nodded. "Six weeks," she said excitedly.   
      
   "Baby..." John whispered and took her face in between his hands and   
   gave her a tender kiss. They parted and embraced.   
      
   "I love you," he whispered.<<   
      
   John put Brady back in his crib, and lightly rested his hand on his   
   little chest. "Good night, little man," he whispered.   
      
   John got into bed quietly, and gently kissed Monica's cheek. She   
   smiled. What he didn't know was that she was up the minute she heard   
   her son's cry.  She’d also overheard his conversation through the   
   baby monitor. It made her smile. Brady had his dad wrapped around   
   his tiny finger.   
      
   Monica pretended to sleep as she rolled over and closed her arm   
   around John’s waist.   
      
   "I love you," she murmured into his chest. John smiled to himself   
   and drifted off to sleep.
