               In a letter from Belinda, Mulder reads her thoughts about the   
   current crisis:   
      
       
      
   "Dear Mulder,   
      
       
      
   I wished to share with you my thoughts. I would have loved to meet you to do   
   this, but it is too risky, I will see you sometime at the mission site.   
      
       
      
   Since 2001, the people and the country have changed. We are now engaged in two   
   wars, one which was justified to get rid of the Taliban training camps in   
   Afghanistan and the other which is questionable in Iraq, i.e. Vietnam II.   
      
       
      
   Also, since 2001, we have went from having free speech to free speech zones,   
   which is a bad idea. In short, free speech does not exist throughout the whole   
   area of country only in zones. Since that September, we have given up many of   
   our civil rights for    
   the war on terrorism and security, and allowed our government to setup foreign   
   prisons, which is against the Declaration of Independence (it was one of the   
   grievances against George III of England by the Colonist). (To be tried   
   outside of your homeland    
   and imprisoned outside of your homeland).   
      
       
      
   Since that time, the feeling of self censorship has increased on the internet,   
   as I have noticed the free form of posting diminishing and more thought into   
   posting. This is what would happen in the Soviet Union with writers who tried   
   to follow state    
   controls on expressing thoughts. Free speech and thought are what keep us   
   free, self censorship and loss of liberties is what keeps up not free.   
      
       
      
   I understand that Al-Queda is the new "Hot" war foe. We went from the "Cold"   
   War to the peace dividend to the "Hot War" with Al-Queda in the War on   
   Terrorism. It is interesting how history and our perceptions change when we   
   are attacked at home.   
      
       
      
   We have not become more aware of terrorist activities and not knee jerk   
   whenever we hear of a terrorist activity or plot worldwide, it is something   
   nagging at the back of our mind. I remember a time, prior to that September   
   when we went full scale on    
   creativity, breaking new pathways on the internet, talking about issues openly   
   rather than in secret, close sessions, and having people question when a   
   policy was proposed or when a civil liberty was reduced or eliminated.   
      
       
      
   I hope that someday, we can get past the religious fanaticism on the western   
   side with the Christian right and on the Eastern side with the Al-Queda   
   version of Islam, both are wrong in practice. Also, I hope that someday, we   
   remember and practice that in    
   the United States, Church and Government are separate, it is very hard to live   
   in a Church state which is my many immigrants came to the U.S. in the first   
   place.    
      
       
      
   To begin  this change, we need to get a change of attitude. A change of   
   attitude that is positive and not fearful of someone because they are   
   different or because they way believe or not believe like we do in faith.   
   There are many faiths worldwide, and    
   each achieves it's goals of believe in God in the way they wished to. There is   
   no one right way. But, when  one tries to force one right way, then they are   
   committing a sin.   
      
       
      
   My hope is that once we have the "Hot" war with Al-Queda we can move forward   
   and get back to welcoming all people again.

   Mulder read this letter many times over. It hit a thought in him with him   
   thinking of how he lived five years ago. At that time, he would post to   
   multiple groups every night just off the top of his head and not worrying if   
   the post would be catalogued.    
   He would surf different sites to see what is "out there." He read the daily   
   paper and wondered at the philosophical and attitude changes that the internet   
   revolution of the 1990's brought.    
      
       
      
   "Mulder, it's your turn to go through security," said Dana.
