From: colbysgurl@shaw.ca              Authors: Sassy and Jacquie              Category: MSR Romance              Rating : M              Summary: A post episode fic for "Drive"; Mulder and Scully are suspended.              -----------------------------------------------------------------       Mulder knocked softly on the morgue door. Scully turned, a little sheepish       at being caught daydreaming. The Pretenders' song "I'll Stand by You" had       been playing. It had gotten her thinking about how true that was with her       and Mulder. She glanced back at him as she picked up her scalpel again.       "Hey..."              "I was just down in my office picking up a few files and tapes." He moved to       stand beside her. "Just wanted to see if you wanted to grab a bite to eat.       But I see you have a lunch date," he teased.              Scully gave him a bemused smile. "Sure...that sounds great."       She stretched out a kink in her neck. "Just give me a second to wash up."       Her gloved hand brushed against his as she walked past him.              "I'm in no hurry. I'm currently without anything to do...for another two       weeks and five days." Mulder watched her. He didn't know what it was about       those scrubs that made her look so cute.              "Sounds about right for me too." She splashed water on her face after she       gave her hands a good washing. She looked at her reflection in the mirror.       'Mulder doesn't have to know about how miserable you are doing grunt       work...'              Mulder smirked. "But you have all this slicing and dicing to do." He met her       eyes in the mirror. "It can't be all that bad."              Scully chose not to comment on that one. It was on the tip of her tongue to       tell him right there to tell him it was that bad because she wasn't with       him. "So where do you want to go?" She thought a subject change was safer.              "We can go to that little Thai place you like." He shoved his hands down       into his jean pockets. He just missed her and wanted the pleasure of her       company.              Scully happened to take a look at his face...the toll of what had happened       to him in Nevada was there lurking behind his eyes. She had to admit he was       putting up a good front for everyone else around him...everyone except her.              "Thai sounds good."              Mulder nodded. He stood up straight. "There's something I want to talk to       you about."              Okay." She knew better than to ask him about it right there though.              Mulder opened the door for her. "You were going to change? Or did you want       to wear your scrubs to lunch?"              "I'm done for today. I'll just change..." she walked over to her metal       locker and took out a navy blue skirt and white blouse.              Mulder motioned toward the door. "I'll just be in my office. Take all the       time you need."              Scully gave him a grateful smile. Every bone in her body ached. She needed a       hot shower.              Mulder continued. "I kind of have to sneak everywhere. Kersh doesn't even       want me in the building." HE gave her a boyish grin and headed out of the       room. Scully bit her lip against an impulse to run after him. Instead she       headed for the women's shoulders at the opposite end of the hall.              Twenty minutes later the elevator door opened and Scully found him.       He pulled her into the office and shut the door. "Kersh's lap dog was down       here a minute ago..." He had her pinned between the door and his body. He       placed his finger to her lips. "Ssh..." he whispered. He wasn't supposed to       be anywhere near this office.              Scully's body trembled at the closeness of Mulder's body to hers. She had       difficulty listening for footsteps due to her heart beating in her ears.              He met her eyes. "I don't hear anyone, do you?" He inched closer to her ear.       "Are you cold, Scully?"              "I'm okay, Mulder." She managed a smile. Without thinking, her hand went to       his forearm. "I think the coast is clear."              Mulder's emotions and heart took control. He pressed his lips to her ear. He       murmured, "You are so beautiful..."              Scully's first thought was to wonder if he was drunk. It just sounded       so...un Mulder like.              "Mulder, is everything okay?" she whispered as she held him.              He pulled back. He adjusted his clothes. "No. No. Everything is fine. I'm       sorry, Scully. I don't know what came over me."              Hurt and disappointment were clear in her eyes before they were gone again.       She carefully straightened her skirt before peering out the doorway.              "We can make it to the elevator."              He nodded. He followed her to the elevator and got on. He watched her punch       the button for the lobby. "I never intended for you to get stuck in the       morgue."              Scully's finger hovered over the button. She closed her eyes for a moment,       arguing with herself to keep her composure.              "I know you didn't, Mulder," she finally said softly.              He nodded. "That's good. I just...I needed you to know that."              She reached down for Mulder's hand. "Mulder, look at me."              He looked over at her. "Okay."              "Whether you like it or not, you're stuck with me..." Yeah, that sounded       real good. Inwardly, she rolled her eyes at herself...even as her hand       stayed on Mulder's hand. It slowly ventured up his arm.              "I'm not stuck with you, Scully." He swallowed hard. "I respect and admire       you as an agent and I want you here with me. Fighting the good fight."              The elevator door opened, startling Scully. Her hand withdrew from Mulder's,       but not before she said, barely audible "Just promise me you won't do       anything to make me prematurely gray, huh?"              "Haven't done it yet, have I?" He smiled at her as they walked side by side.       "I parked a few blocks down."              Scully hoped he didn't notice she was wiping a tear off her face as she       casually walked beside him in the afternoon sunshine.              Then she stopped him as the need for him to understand took over. "Mulder I       got really scared out there," she said softly. It was now or never.              He turned to face her. He studied her eyes. "I know, Scully...I'm sorry. I       never want to do that to you...of all people." He swallowed hard. "But I       really thought I could save him."              "We both did." Her own mental and emotional exhaustion was coming to the       fore as she allowed her head to rest against him for a moment.              "Scully...Dana... I always intended on coming back..." He whispered, "...to       you..." He kissed the top of her head.              Mulder's stomach chose to growl at the particular moment.              "Come on, let's get you fed"                                          [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]                                                                                                   |
