From: fallonrose@gmail.com              Rated G       Season 8/9       sugarbullet@mail.com              "He's so perfect, Scully," Mulder said just after they broke their kiss.       Scully smiled shyly. "He is. Isn't he? Can you believe we did this?"       Mulder laughed. "How could I forget with my photographic memory?"       Little William began to cry softly, and Mulder held him close to his chest,       almost as if he hoped he would never let go of him, even though he knew that       was exactly what he had to do.       It was almost as if Scully could sense what he was thinking, like she always       did, perfectly in sync with her perfect opposite, as usual. She tucked       William's blanket around him, as if to ward out some imaginary cold in the       middle of May. It was logical,        in a way, she knew. There would be people trying to hurt him. Always clinging       on to Mulder's sense of faith, she wanted to believe differently, but the       scientist in her knew better.       Once she felt even remotely sure that her son was safe, at least for the time       being, she placed her hand on his father's shoulder, almost reassuring him.       *****       They turned in early that night, and spent the next day holding their son and       each other, clinging to the last shred of hope that they would one day be       together again.       On that last night, as Scully lay awake, taking Mulder's place as the       insomniac this time, thinking of never giving up on miracles and flirting       innocently over nonfat tofutti rice dreamsicles, she couldn't help but feel       fear once again after what she        thought would be the beginning of her second chance, their second chance.       In the morning, Mulder got up for a shower and they kissed and held each other       until he absolutely had to break from her to get ready.       Once he'd closed the glass door, she stopped pretending to be strong. She held       William to her chest and cried until he cried.       "Shh," she whispered to him. "Don't cry," she said, trying to fight back her       own sobs. "It's going to be okay. I want to believe it will be fine."              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
