From: susanf34@comcast.net              *NO ARCHIVE*                            Title: The Right Gift       Author: Susan       E-mail: susanf34@comcast.net       Classification: Christmas vignette       Spoiler: none, but this takes place early in       season one       Archive: No archive without permission.       Disclaimer: On paper, Mulder isn't mine. In       my head, he is.              *This is dedicated to the wonderful women at       lots of lots of files who have given me many       "right gifts" this year.:)              Author's notes at the end.              Summary: What am I supposed to get a person       I've only known a few months?       ****************************************************              The Right Gift       by Susan       ~~~~              So, it's two days before Christmas, and I still       haven't gotten anything for Scully.              I guess I shouldn't be surprised that I'm       scrambling around for something at the last       minute, considering the fact that I haven't       had to buy a gift for a woman in over three       years.              Still, I should've bought something for her by       now.              It's not really that I've been procrastinating       so much as struggling. I mean, what exactly am       I supposed to get a person I've only known for       a few months?              A scarf is too personal. A book's too impersonal,       and though I wouldn't mind getting a box of       chocolates as a gift, I don't really see Scully       as the chocolate candy type.              Of course, jewelry is definitely out and so is       treating her to dinner at a fancy restaurant,       so you can see my dilemma.              I could just give her a Christmas card, but that       wouldn't really show her how much I've enjoyed       having her as my partner these past couple months.              To be honest, when she first joined me on the       X-Files, I really didn't see her lasting very       long with me, but in the short time we've       worked together, she's proven to be not only an       excellent investigator, but also someone I've       grown to respect and trust.              And that hasn't been an easy thing for me to do       with very many people.              Hey, wait a minute. I've got it.              I know what I can give her, and it's something       I should've thought of before.              Opening the middle drawer on my desk, I reach       inside and pull out the small metal object       that's been tucked away in the back for a very       long time.              Yeah, this is the right gift, and it's the right       time to give it to her.              Closing the drawer, I slip the extra key to my       apartment into my pocket so I can wrap it when       I get home.              And I smile.                     ~end~              I hope this little moment in time brought you a       bit of Christmas cheer and made you smile because       that's what it did for me.:) Happy Holidays,       everyone, and thanks for all the lovely feedback       letters you've sent to me during this past year.:)                     possibilities       http://possibilities.bravehost.com/                                                               To post, mail to xfc-ATXC@yahoogroups.com       To subscribe, mail xfc-ATXC-subscribe@yahoogroups.com       To unsubscribe, mail xfc-ATXC-unsubscribe@yahoogroups.com       Yahoo!
