|    2-22 A Comedy of Eros -- A Critique    |
|    03 Mar 07 22:37:25    |
From: davideml@bellsouth.net              2-22 A Comedy of Eros                            First air date May 12, 1997.              The episode starts out with Cupid trying to get his son, Bliss, to go to       sleep because Cupid's wife is calling him to bed for a little whoopee. Cupid       promises Bliss a solid gold chariot and six pure-bred horses if he'll go to       sleep. When Cupid leaves the room, Bliss flies up to where bows and arrows       are mounted on the wall, takes a bow and a quiver of arrows and disappears.              Next we see Xena and Gabrielle in a village where Draco wants to capture the       Hestian virgins and sell them to a slave trader. Gabrielle tells Xena how       hard it must be to stay chaste and not fall in love.               Bliss appears and shoots several people at random, making them fall in       love.              Joxer shows up.              Just as Draco rides up, Bliss shoots Xena and she falls for Draco. She gives       him a long passionate, kiss. Gabrielle tells Joxer it's part of Xena's plan.       Xena and Draco swordfight but with not much conviction. Draco leaves and       tells Xena not to interfere.              Xena finds a punching bag and tries to work off the passion she feels. Joxer       suggests a cold swim. Xena says if she can change so can Draco.              Xena goes to Draco's tent and tries to get him to join her but he refuses.              Draco captures Gabrielle and Joxer and tie them back to back to a pole. When       he goes into the temple only Xena is there. She had the virgins dress as       villagers. She goes out to free Gabrielle and Joxer. Bliss shoots Gabrielle       and Joxer is the first one she sees and falls for him.              Later, Xena and Draco are arm wrestling (with Xena winning), and Gabrielle       and Joxer are singing the 'Joxer the Mighty' song.              Gabrielle finds Xena taking a cold swim. Then they argue about the other's       choice in men. They hear screaming and run to the temple. Bliss shoots Draco       and he sees Gabrielle and falls for her.              Everyone fights then they all run into the temple. One of the virgins drops       her prayer scroll and Joxer goes after it and is captured. Gabrielle goes       after Joxer and she is captured. In Draco's tent, Gabrielle accidentally       tells him she is in love with Joxer, so he goes to kill him but is knocked       out by Xena. Xena frees Gabrielle and sends Joxer on a mission (to find       Cupid).              Back at the temple, Draco threatens to burn it down if Xena doesn't give him       the virgins, she tells him he can have them.              The slave trader rides up with a note that Draco has an Amazon princess.       Draco says the note is a fake. Gabrielle comes out in her Amazon outfit. The       slave trader wants her, but so does Draco, and they fight. Xena fights       Draco's men while Gabrielle and the virgins run into the temple. Bliss       shoots the virgins and they end up chasing the soldiers, who run away       because Draco said he'd kill any of them who "touched" them.              Xena tells Draco Gabrielle will never love him because of his evil ways, and       he has to change.              Cupid shows up and changes everyone back except Joxer, who really is in love       with Gabrielle, and Draco. Xena tells him not to change Draco because Draco       tells Gabrielle he is going to try to do good because of her.              .......              I didn't remember any details about this one, but I liked it better than I       thought.              Gabrielle was good, as usual.              Quite the lip lock Xena put on Draco!              I guess Gabrielle keeps a spare Amazon outfit with her at all times.              Cupid promised Bliss a gold chariot and six pure-bred horses. "Thoroughbred"       is for horses. "Pure-bred" is for cats and dogs.              Lots of suggestive dialog, then we see arm wrestling and hear the Joxer       song.              Kind of odd to see Cupid with a '5 o'clock shadow.'              Was hard to watch Gabrielle kissing all over Joxer (Yes, I'm jealous!).              Always liked Draco, too bad we don't see more of him.              Only 22 episodes in Season Two. There were 24 for Season One.              Pretty entertaining, an 8.5 out of 10.                            Going back to check my ratings for Season One -              5 out of 10 - 1 [The Black Wolf]              6 out of 10 - 5              7 out of 10 - 6              7.5 / 10 -- 1              8 out of 10 - 7              8.5 / 10 -- 2              9 out of 10 - 1 [Is There a Doctor in the House?]              9.5 / 10 -- 1 [Callisto]                             And for Season Two --              6 out of 10 - 5 [Girls Have Fun, Miss Amphipolis, Solstice Carol, The       Execution, Blind Faith]              6.5 / 10 -- 1 [The Price]              7 out of 10 - 3              7.5 / 10 -- 1              8 out of 10 - 6              8.5 / 10 -- 4              9 out of 10 - 2 [The Xena Scrolls, A Day in the Life]                            I didn't realize there were so many S2 eps that I rated 7 and below. Maybe       because there were so many more (than S 1) that I rated 8 or above. This       season was more roller coaster than I remembered.              But - looking forward to Season Three.                                   --       David       http://geocities.com/daviderl31/xena.htm       http://geocities.com/daviderl31/GabPics.htm              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
