    In a different time-line maybe they wouldn't fated to be together.   
    In WFC, the time-line was different but maybe it wasn't changed far   
   enough back to erase all   
   the underlying feelings/memories.

    And maybe HE was fated all along to bring them together, starting when   
   he was imprisoned in   
   the Cave. Or even farther back than that. Maybe it started when the souls of   
   Gabrielle and Xena   
   were first created.

   How does this coincide/conflict with 'Soul Possession'? And Ares involved   
   again? Two sets of
