    Mel became Xena, no doubt, but I don't remember Janice becoming   
   Gabrielle. As I recall, she   
   was lamenting the fact she was descended from the usless tag-along.

    Going with that -- the soul searches near and far looking for that   
   "right" body to inhabit.   
   Of course it has to happen at the instance of egg-meets-sperm (or whenever one   
   cell becomes many to   
   eventually becomes "a person"). I suppose the soul will know the proper time   
   to invade the   
   consciousness (or BECOME the consciousness).   
    Much food for thought/speculation/debate.
