From: davideml@bellsouth.net               Besides Xena, I also liked Gilmore Girls. And after 7 seasons, it       signed off last month       for good. The DVD set is expected sometime in the next few months. When asked       about working on any       extras, Lauren Graham said that since they get exactly ZERO dollars from DVD       sales, she saw no       reason to put out any effort to increase the number of DVDs sold when she was       getting none of it.        And I have to admit, I can't blame her. They SHOULD get royalties from       the DVDs, after all,       the networks/studios make tons of money from them.        But that got me thinking about Lucy and Renee and the audio and video       commentaries they       have done on the Xena DVDs. I don't know if they got paid for actually sitting       down and doing them,       but since they don't get a percentage of the money brought in from the DVDs,       then there must be       another reason why they do them.        And the only reason I can think of is that they feel as much loyalty       and love for the fans       as we fans feel for them.        Lauren has often expressed her appreciation for all the support and       adoration the GG fans have       shown her and Alexis and the rest of the cast, but it really doesn't seem to       be much of a two way       street. The fans go out of their way to go that extra mile (such as the many       online petitions to       get the CW to reconsider and renew the show for another season) but Lauren, et       al, don't seem to       want to reciprocate.        I can understand her reluctance, but as a fan I'd like to see the       extras we want to see. So       I have real mixed emotions about the situation.        I've often wondered if Lucy wished she could leave Xena behind and be       known for some of the       other roles she's played, such as Kathleen Clayton (on 'Tarzan'), or Maddy       Reardon, or D'Anna       Biers.        But in everything she gets involved in (Celeb Duets, the XWP       conventions, her Roxy concert,       etc.) she never fails to express her appreciation and love for the fans.        How many other TV or movie stars can say they do that? And how many       give back to the fans       as much as Lucy, and Renee give?               I didn't intend for this to end up being so long. And I'm not really       sure why I felt the       need to say all of this (preaching to choir!), but nevertheless -- there it is.              -       David       http://geocities.com/daviderl31/xena.htm       http://geocities.com/daviderl31/GabPics.htm              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
