|    Lucy's NY Concert DVD    |
|    27 Oct 07 17:51:30    |
From: davideml@bellsouth.net               Got the NY Concert DVD yesterday. As I said previously, the S&H was       $8.50. There was $1.48       postage on it (even less than the $1.81 on the 'Diamonds and Guns' DVD). $7.02       for handling a DVD       box?? I want that job!        I watched the concert today. On the back of the box it said it was       filmed May 31, and June       1st and 2nd. I didn't know there were three shows. Lucy sang more songs in       this concert (19 versus       14). At first I thought she had an all new set of songs, but she sang a lot of       the ones she did at       the Roxy concert (a list of both concert songs is at the end). I understand       the Chicago concert had       more of a bluesy feel with songs to reflect that.        Unfortunately, the concert was rather uneven.        Lucy came out wearing a silver space suit (as she called it), it       looked like a silver wet       suit. She had red, blue and yellow lights shining on her. As form-fitting as       it was, there was no       way she could move that wasn't erotic, evocative, and provocative (not that       I'm complaining!!!).       More than once she had her back to the audience shaking her so-fine booty to       the music.        I guess Lucy thinks the LA audience is more laid back that the NY       audience because during       the first half of her show, her voice sounded like she was really straining to       rock out. Twice       during the song 'Piece of my Heart' she had to take swallows of water.        During the second half she came out wearing blue jeans, a black belt,       black chaps, a       metallic       green bikini top and what looked to be a silver chain mail kind of halter       front.        And as she did at the Roxy, she introduced her band during the song       'What'd I Say?", and       then Reneé came out, this time wearing a red fringed Go-Go suit (it was blue       in LA).        It was during this second set that Lucy changed from being       Lucy-the-Rocker to       Lucy-the-Entertainer. She wasn't straining her voice as much and the songs had       a more natural sound       to them.        At the Roxy, she sang "I'll Stand By You" as her closer (except for       the encore song) and       dedicated it to the soldiers fighting in the Middle East. When she sang it       this time, it was fourth       from last and she dedicated it to Daisy. (And I still got a bit choked up.)        As with the Roxy DVD, there is the concert itself, and then the songs       listed so you can       choose which ones you'd like to watch again. There is bonus footage of Lucy       selecting and       rehearsing a couple songs.        I am still amazed at how good Lucy looks, and how much energy she       puts into her       performance. Her stage presence is every bit as good as ANYONE's!        For some reason, the NY crowd didn't seem to be as vociferous or as       animated as the LA       audience. Maybe it was a smaller venue, or maybe the microphones didn't pick       the calls, whistles,       and applause.        There is no doubt that the Roxy concert rated and A+. And I wish I       could give the NY       concert an A+ also. Rating the separate halves, I would give the first half a       B, and the second       half an A+, so they average out about an A or an A- .        I just thought of another reason why I may have liked the second half       better -- I was more       familiar with those songs -- 6 for the first half (out of 11) and all 8 of the       ones in the second       half.       ............................              Roxy Songs NY Songs              Feeling Good Feeling Good       Jump Into My Fire Shakey Ground       Down On My Knees Down On My Knees       Total Control I'm The Only One       Maxine Total Control       Like The Way You Do Maxine       Do You Want To Dance?
