   5-04    Animal Attraction   
      
      
      
   First air date was Oct 19, 1999.   
      
             The story starts out with Xena riding Argo, with Gabrielle, Amarice   
   and Joxer walking.   
   Joxer keeps looking back at Gabrielle and Gabrielle tries to talk to Xena   
   about it, but Xena keeps   
   dozing off.   
      
             Xena hears something ahead and rides off to see what it is. The rest   
   of them run after   
   her. Xena sees a horse with its foot in a trap. She lassos the horse and ties   
   the end to her   
   saddle. When  the others run up, the horse sees Gabrielle and calms down. Xena   
   tells Gabrielle to   
   talk to the horse so she can get the trap off its foot.   
      
             They lead the horse to the town of Spamona, which is famous for its   
   hot springs.   
   Gabrielle gets the horse to go into a stall. The stable guy tells them the   
   town has a law against   
   carrying weapons. Amarice asks who's got the guts to take Xena's. A woman   
   steps up and says she   
   does. She  and Xena sword fight. Xena knocks her feet out from under her. When   
   she helps her up,   
   they hug. Xena tells them she and Talia used to ride together.   
      
             Xena is hungry for raspberry jelly and raw fish. No one is hungry so   
   Xena and Talia go   
   off to eat. They are in a saloon looking tavern and a man tells Talia, who is   
   the local sheriff, a   
   man named Darkon is coming, and he resigns as deputy. Xena offers to help, but   
   Talia makes her   
   promise not to.   
      
             Cut to a co-ed bath house. Amarice comes in and knocks a guy into a   
   tub of water. It is   
   Armon ("The Convert" - Joxer killed his father). She pulls him up and breathes   
   into his mouth a   
   couple of times. Joxer comes up and he kids Amarice about saving a man's life.   
   When she leaves, she   
   slips down and they laugh at her.   
      
             Joxer and Armon are getting massages and talking about how immature   
   and obnoxious Amarice   
   is. Next door Amarice is telling Xena and Gabrielle, who are in steam boxes,   
   how arrogant and smug   
   Armon is.   
      
             Gabrielle notices that Xena hasn't felt good for a few days and   
   talks her into visiting a   
   healer. The doctor tells her she's pregnant. Xena is angry, grabs him by the   
   throat, and tells him   
   it's impossible because she hasn't done anything in a long time.   
      
             Gabrielle is taking a sack of apples to the horse. Joxer wants to   
   help and they fight   
   over the sack, which breaks open and the apples fall on the ground. In the   
   barn, Gabrielle tries to   
   get the horse to eat one, but it won't. Armon finds Gabrielle there and wants   
   to know how to make   
   peace with Amarice. Gabrielle tells him to take flowers to her.   
      
             After he leaves, Gabrielle wraps a bandage around her ankle to try   
   to bond with the   
   horse, who has his leg bandaged. It doesn't seem to work.   
      
             Xena is trying to talk Talia into letting her help, but Talia tells   
   her Darkon is her   
   problem because he is her husband, but she doesn't love him any more. She   
   knows Xena is pregnant   
   from all the symptoms. And her mother was a midwife.   
      
             Xena goes into the bar and asks for milk. Amarice finds her and   
   wants to know how to deal   
   with her feelings for Armon, Xena tells her to either kiss him or kill him.   
   Xena leaves and Armon   
   come in with flowers and a box (of candy).  She is appreciative until he tells   
   her she needs a man   
   to protect her. They start arguing again. Suddenly they begin kissing   
   passionately. Joxer comes in   
   looking for Gabrielle. They start arguing over who kissed who first.   
      
             Xena goes into the stable and tells Argo she's pregnant.   
      
             Armon tells Xena he kissed Amarice but thinks she scared it will   
   make her feel weak. He   
   goes back into the saloon and talks to Amarice. But they end up arguing again   
   when he tells her she   
   is acting phony.   
      
             Xena is still in the stable. Gabrielle is talking to the horse.   
   Amarice, Armon and Joxer   
   come in, all arguing at Xena bout their problems Xena yells out she's pregnant   
   to shut them up.   
   Everyone is stunned. Gabrielle asks when, and who. But finally she Xena her   
   but with a concerned   
   look on her face.   
      
             Armon and Amarice are in a room to guard Talia's flank. They both   
   talk about how their   
   feelings scare them.   
      
             Xena and Gabrielle are looking out of a second floor window.   
   Gabrielle wonders if Ares   
   did a god thing, but Xena denies it. She also wonders about Hercules, but they   
   hear Darkon and his   
   men riding hard to town.   
      
             Talia meets them in the middle of the street. Darkon's men separate   
   and Talia and Darkon   
   draw knives and throw them, both missing. They start sword fighting.   
      
             Xena sees one if the men with a crossbow and throws her Chakram and   
   knocks  him off the   
   roof. Gabrielle takes on two more of them, her sais against their swords. She   
   does good in the   
   first round, but while she's watching Talia and Darkon she is sucker-punched   
   and is knocked down.   
   Armon and Amarice come to her rescue.   
      
             Gabrielle sees the fifth man with a torch heading to the barn. She   
   tries to talk him out   
   of setting it on fire. The Horse breaks down the barn doors and knocks the man   
   down with his front   
   hooves.   
      
             Talia disarms Darkon and tells him he will have to face a judge.   
      
             Armon and Amarice say their good byes, and Amarice kisses him.   
      
             Gabrielle has a horse now. Xena tells her they are a two-horse   
   family, and pats her   
   belly. They mount up and Gabrielle offers to race Xena to Greece. Xena   
   declines and tells Gabrielle   
   if the did, Gabrielle wouldn't be able to walk straight for a month.   
      
   ........   
      
             A western-themed show.  Not really one of my favorites.   
      
             I was glad to see everyone FINALLY wearing weather-appropriate   
   clothes. You could see the   
   steam coming out when they breathed.   
      
             When I heard the name of the town was Spamona, I was thinking it was   
   the episode with   
   Salmoneus playing Lord Seltzer. I forgot that was a S1 episode.   
      
             The steam boxes Gabrielle and Xena were in had the same tops that   
   were used around Xena's   
   neck in "The Debt" when Xena was in the water filled dungeon.   
      
             I got kind of tired of Amarice and Armon arguing so much. A little   
   went a L-O-N-G way.   
      
             The sword fighting between Talia and Darkon was pretty good.   
      
             Gabrielle taking on two guys with swords with just her sais was   
   nervy, and she did a good   
   job until she got distracted.   
      
             Nice line from Talia - ".Wake up and smell the diapers."   
      
             And BTW, where did she ride off to? No one knew where she was, but   
   she showed up again to   
   face down Darkon and his men.
