   5-21    Eve   
      
      
      
   First airing was May 8, 2000.   
      
             The story starts out with scenes from "Livia" - including Xena   
   breaking out of the ice   
   coffin, seeing Livia riding into Rome with the followers of Eli as prisoners,   
   and Xena saying to   
   Gabrielle, "I've gotta go after her, Gabrielle. I gotta save her from herself   
   from herself -- and   
   the gods."  [But at the end of "Livia" she says, "We've gotta go after her,   
   Gabrielle. She'll do   
   something terrible.  We've gotta save her from herself -- and the gods."]   
      
             Xena, Gabrielle, Joxer, and Virgil are going after Eve (walking   
   because Joxer and Virgil   
   have no horses). Xena says they are tracking Livia, not Eve. Gabrielle tells   
   Xena Eve will be Eve   
   again when she looks inside herself and sees Xena there.   
      
             Roman soldiers of Livia  are killing villagers. Livia is walking   
   around with a bloody   
   sword. A man tells her that they lived through Callisto's raids. Livia says   
   Callisto did good work,   
   but she's not Callisto, and chops his head off.   
      
             Xena, Gabrielle, Joxer and Virgil  enter the village. Lots of people   
   are hung on crosses.   
   Xena says that her daughter did this, and looks horrified. Virgil says he   
   knows these people --   
   they were his friends. A note on one of the crosses says "Rome needs no   
   mother." An old woman   
   crying over a body, spits on Xena. She says Livia told her to ask Xena why she   
   was killing them.   
   Xena has tears running down her cheeks.   
      
             Ares appears. He tells Xena to give him a child, and all this will   
   go away. Xena says   
   she'd rather go to hell. Ares, very mad, grabs her and yells, "Give me what I   
   want or I'll bring   
   down all of Olympus on your daughter's head!" Xena says that the thought of   
   being with him sickens   
   her. He disappears.   
      
             Livia sets up camp with her soldiers. Ares appears and tells Livia   
   she has to get even.   
   He says they had a deal -- she destroys the cult of Eli for him, and he makes   
   her empress of Rome.   
   He says he is still prepared to fulfill his part of the deal, and that he once   
   loved Xena but no   
   more. He tells Livia to kill her. He also tells Livia that the only power she   
   has over the gods is   
   the fear the gods put into themselves worrying about the twilight. After all,   
   she's been around for   
   25 years and nothing happened. He tells her again to kill Xena.   
      
             Xena and Gabrielle talk. Gabrielle says Eve will look inside   
   herself. Xena says if she   
   looks inside herself, she'll find Xena there. She says "I was her." Gabrielle   
   says, "Then there's   
   hope, because you changed."   
      
             Another village is being attacked. Xena throws her Chakram and stops   
   some guy from   
   getting nailed to a cross. Xena fights, Gabrielle fights, Virgil fights.   
      
             Livia says, "Oh Mommy." She has Joxer, with a knife at his throat.   
   Everyone stops. The   
   soldiers all get behind Livia. Xena picks up a handful of nails and throws   
   them at Livia. She   
   deflects them with the knife, and Joxer escapes. Livia throws the knife at   
   Xena and Xena catches it   
   just before it hits her in the face.   
      
             Xena and Livia fight. Xena throws Livia against the wall. A villager   
   drops down and puts   
   a knife to Livia's throat and starts to kill her, but Xena stops him with her   
   Chakram. Livia yells   
   for her archers. Fire arrows start fires everywhere. Xena yells for everyone   
   to get down. Livia   
   rides off. Ares appears to Xena and asks "What does it feel like to have   
   someone you love despise   
   you?"   
      
              The villager asks Xena why she stopped him. Livia killed his wife   
   and daughter and now   
   the blood of Livia's next victims is on Xena's head now.   
      
             Ares and Livia talk again. She says Xena could have let the villager   
   kill her, but she   
   didn't. He asks who she is going to listen to - the mother who abandoned her   
   25 years ago, or the   
   god who's going to make her an empress?   
      
             That night while camping, Joxer and Virgil talk. Joxer tells Virgil   
   he wasn't a great   
   warrior. He tells him that the hero in all the stories was really Xena. Virgil   
   says it sounds like   
   you and Xena had some real adventures together.   
      
             Gabrielle asks Xena if Eve can't be changed, can Xena kill her. Xena   
   says yes, if she has   
   to. Later, Xena mounts up  and says she has to go to Ostea, the last Eli   
   follower stronghold. Xena   
   rides off. Gabrielle wakes up Virgil, and tells him if she isn't back by   
   morning, then they should   
   go on to Ostea as planned to meet Xena. She says she has to go keep Xena from   
   doing something she'd   
   never forgive herself for.   
      
             Livia is in her tent. Gabrielle is dragged in by two soldiers, she   
   is unarmed. "Auntie   
   Gabrielle," Livia says. She tells Gabrielle to save the words, and tells her   
   what Gabrielle was   
   going to say, and wants to know why Xena wants to destroy her. Gabrielle says   
   Xena wants to protect   
   her, and that she won't fight her. Livia puts a knife to Gabrielle's throat   
   and says maybe she just   
   hasn't been properly motivated.   
      
             Joxer is mad at Virgil for letting Gabrielle go off alone. He tells   
   Virgil to go get   
   Xena. He goes after Gabrielle. Joxer finds the camp and hides in some bushes.   
   He counts the men.   
   Odds of 20 to 1. Livia says she will wipe out the cult and take her revenge on   
   Xena. Gabrielle is   
   tied up.   
      
             Xena and Virgil ride toward Livia's camp. Joxer throws a rock and   
   hits a soldier on the   
   helmet. The soldier investigates and Joxer knocks him out and takes his   
   clothes.   
      
             Livia decides it is time to kill Gabrielle. Joxer interrupts,   
   dressed as a soldier. Xena   
   rides in, swinging her sword and knocking down soldiers. Livia is next to   
   Gabrielle. Virgil fights,   
   and Xena fights as Livia watches. Livia starts to kill Gabrielle, but just as   
   Xena starts to throw   
   her Chakram, Joxer gets in her way, yells out "no," and runs toward Gabrielle.   
   Xena tells him to   
   duck, but he keeps running and Livia turns around and stabs him in the stomach   
   with her sword, up   
   to the hilt. Everyone yells "No!" Livia (and her soldiers) get on their horses   
   and ride off.   
      
             Virgil and Xena gather around Joxer. Xena says she can't help him   
   but she puts the Pinch   
   on him to ease his pain. She takes her sword and cuts Gabrielle lose.  Joxer   
   says he is a little   
   cold, but it doesn't hurt anymore. And he dies.   
      
             Virgil says he will take Joxer's body back to Meg when they have   
   finished. Now he wants   
   his revenge against Livia. He tells Xena not to tell him it's not his fight,   
   because it is.   
      
             Ares appears to Xena. He tells her Joxer is dead and it's all her   
   fault because the
