    Not defending Rob, but he kind of reminds me of Joss Whedon (Buffy).    
   JW once said that he   
   doesn't give viewers what they want, he gives them what they need. JW believed   
   in killing off   
   characters just when things were starting to go good for them. Some kind of   
   life lesson, I think he   
   said.   
    Either that, or Rob was tired of Xena and decided a permanent end was the   
   best way to end the   
   series (suspecting that the much longed-for movie would never happen).
