   Prometheus
First air date: Nov 6, 1995

The story starts out with Gabrielle sleeping through a fight Xena is having
with bounty hunters. And she wakes up Gabrielle to get her small knife to
cut open a bad guy's wind pipe. So, where was her breast knife?
And where did the watermelon come from?
Xena is carrying her sword on her back again. Can't make up her mind?
They are in a tavern and two men die suddenly. Xena says Prometheus has
been chained. How did she know that, and that the haunting scream was
   Prometheus?
So she leaves (Horse) with Gabrielle once again to visit the Oracles.
And has to pull the chain to get a worthless tablet. The Head O tells her to
go to Vulcan Mt. to the Cave of Hephaestus to get the Sword of Hephaestus,
the only sword that will break the chains binding Prometheus. She fights her
way in against some of Hera's warriors, but gets the sword anyway. However,
Hercules is waiting for her when she leaves the cave. They fight, him with a
stick and her with her sword. She back-flips onto (Horse) and rides away.
Gabrielle is once again waiting, this time in the tent of a shady
souvenir peddler. And who should come in, but good old Iolaus. Then Xena
comes back and takes Gabrielle away.
Xena and Gabrielle are in a barn when the warriors find them and
re-attack. Herc and Iolaus arrive to help out.
I have to say, I get SO frustrated with these guys who have super
strength. Half the time it doesn't seem to be much more than regular guys.
How many times does Herc have to hit them to put them away? And don’t say
they have extra strength from Hera, because even puny Iolaus was able to
   take them down.
They agree to help each other to get to where Prometheus is chained up.
But Iolaus has been injured during the battle, so he and Gabrielle stay
behind in the cavern leading up to the top. How I kept hoping Iolaus would
buy it, but he never did. And he and Gabrielle have a few intimate moments.
As do Xena and Hercules. Xena knocks out Hercules, takes the sword and
climbs up the rope to the top of the mountain. When Herc comes to, he
   climbs up the hard way.
He has super strength, why didn't he just JUMP up to the top?? Surely
his legs must be super strong as well as his arms.
Xena threads her way through seven large blue eggs even though it would
have made more sense to just walk around them (or even run!). More of
Hera's men break out of the eggs and start fighting Xena. But Herc makes it
up to the top and while he's fighting them, Xena is carried away by some
kind of giant bird, maybe a Roc.
And again Herc's super strength doesn't seem so super.
Xena manages to get on top of the bird and while she is perched up
there, she takes her sword and stabs it down through the back. Smooth move,
   Xena – kill your ride!
Gabrielle is telling Iolaus the story about people having two heads,
four legs and one soul, then are split by thunderbolts thrown down by the
gods, and spend their lives looking for the other half of their soul. A nice
story, but NOT with Iolaus !! (And how many gods throw thunderbolts?)
Xena from a mile or more above the earth yells down to Hercules to catch
the sword, he deflects it with a large rock and it rebounds into one of the
chains, allowing Prometheus to free himself. And fire and man's ability to
heal himself is restored. (So what happened to the magic sword?)
Gabrielle & Iolaus, and Xena and Herc both have romantic farewells.
And as Xena and Gabrielle are leaving Hercules and Iolaus, once again
Xena is riding and Gabrielle is walking.

I have to say this isn't one of my favorites, mainly because I have
   absolutely NO USE for Iolaus.

Other than Iolaus, and Hercules' erratic strength, and the few things
I've previously mentioned, there wasn't too much else that bothered me.
Well, one more thing. Hercules mentioned his father, and Gabrielle said
"Your father, Zeus-- the king of the gods, the maker of all creations?”
Hercules agreed, but I thought the gods just took over when they defeated
the Titans. Surely Gabrielle should have known that.

But there were some scenes I liked –
Gabrielle catching onto souvenir peddler as he was trying to sucker her
   into buying his crap.

Gabrielle to Xena (about Iolaus) -- Xena, guess who he knows?”
   X: “Hercules?”
   G: “You’re so good.”

Xena looked so young while she was being carried along hanging onto the
rope with the wind blowing in her face.
And while watching Hercules kiss Xena, and Iolaus kissing Gabrielle, I
have to confess that I kind of wished I was Iolaus. Kissing Gabrielle seemed
sweeter and more – umm, delicious.
Hard to give this one a rating. Less than five because of Iolaus, but
over five because most of the time Gabrielle was just so darned cute. So I
   guess a 6 out of 10.
