|    More about Xena Reboot    |

   From: daviderl31@yahoo.com

If a Xena reboot does happen, creators say it won't be the same.

You can say goodbye to the bare midriffs and leather mini-skirts if Xena
   makes a comeback.

A Xena reboot may be closer than you think as plans are afoot for a new
   series.

NBC's reboot of Xena: Warrior Princess is still waiting to be greenlit, but
Xena comic writer Genevieve Valentine, and writer/producer Javier
Grillo-Marxuach (Lost, Helix) are already talking next steps.

In a Q&A with io9, they said for one thing, the new series would have more
of an over-arching story rather than a separate story for each episode.

What will a modern Xena look like?

But more importantly, there's the issue of re-casting the parts of Xena and
Gabrielle with new actresses. Xena and Gabrielle's new costumes might owe
more to Brienne of Tarth than the original series.

Valentine and Grillo-Marxuach have confirmed Lucy Lawless and Renee O'Connor
will not be reprising their roles and "that already has a lot of people in
   an uproar".

"Look, I love these actors in these roles as much as I love William Shatner
as Kirk, Sean Connery as Bond, and Lynda Carter as Diana Prince – so why
does this need to be a reboot and not a continuation?," he said.

"The answer for me is that the reboot is not a repudiation of the classic
show, but rather a compliment to it.

Creators don't think they could get away with the bare midrifs look the 90s
   series rocked.

"I want for Xena to be a cultural icon for longer than my tenure in the
entertainment industry, or that of anyone else involved with the project.

"If, in some far future people assume that Xena is a character from the
Greek mythological pantheon alongside Hercules, and that's why so many
people have played her over so many years? That right there would be
   success."

There's even a new look on the table as Grillo-Marxuach says they're now
also having to re-think those iconic costumes now that pop-culture has
redefined what a female warrior should look like thanks, he says, to
characters like Game of Thrones' Brienne of Tarth.

"A great deal of the appeal of the show lies in certain pulpy elements like
Gabrielle's bare midriff, Xena's leather miniskirt, Callisto's amazing and
gravity-defying…well, you get it," said Grillo-Marxuach.

Xena may have earned Lucy Lawless a cult following, but she says she's "too
old" to play the character now.

"And it's hard for me in the post-Brienne of Tarth era to reconcile with the
idea that Xena and her friends can meet every challenge in such skimpy
   outfits.

"I think we are going to have some very lengthy discussions about how to
bring those elements into the present day without missing the boat on what
makes Xena exactly what she is; and how to have our cake and eat it too."
    { "...EAT our cake and HAVE it too," is the correct saying! }

In previous interviews, Lucy Lawless has expressed her approval of a Xena
reboot with no desire to reprise her role.

"They should definitely remake it, it's a bloody fantastic franchise. Two
cool females moving through the world righting wrongs and singing songs. Why
   not?" she said.

But she says she's "too old to play her now, but someone should".
