From: daviderl31@yahoo.com              2-05 The Return of Callisto              First Air date Oct 28, 1996              The episode starts out in a dungeon. One guard is telling another how much       slop to feed the prisoners. The worst one, they put a bowl onto a long       paddle of some sort and pass it thought a small window in a locked door. The       prisoner is Callisto, sitting in a wooden chair, with her ankles, wrists,       neck and forehead fastened securely with leather straps and chains.               Callisto taunts the first guard, he gets angry, comes into her cell,       smacks her a few times with some kind of truncheon while she lifts his       dagger from its scabbard.               Callisto cuts through the leather straps and comes out of her cell       barefooted and ready to fight. She kills all the guards and frees her second       in command Theodorus. She tells him to free the prisoners to start a new       army, and to take the 'throne' she was strapped in, she knows someone it       will look perfect on.               Xena and Gabrielle are asleep by a campfire. Someone is skulking around.       Xena gets up and punches him out. It is Perdicus, looking for Gabrielle. He       says he's finished with fighting and wants her to be his wife. Gabrielle       goes to Xena for advice.               Joxer is showing off for some kids in a barn, it looks like. Callisto       finds him and tell him that Xena should have killed her and from now on any       innocent blood Callisto spills is also no Xena's hands.               The next day Gabrielle tells Xena her answer is no but is waiting for       the right time to tell Perdicus.               Joxer finds them and tells them that Callisto is out.               Xena, Gabrielle, Joxer and Perdicus find Callisto's army attacking a       village. Everyone (except maybe Joxer) fights. Callisto manages to get a       sword to Xena's neck, but tells her she isn't going to kill her, but rather,       she's going to kill her soul. Then Callisto runs away.               Perdicus kills a man, then throws his sword away and tells Gabrielle he       is going home with or without her. Gabrielle tells Xena she is going to       marry him after all.               They get married with Xena and Joxer as witnesses. Xena tells Gabrielle       not to say goodbye, they'll see each other soon.               They share a sweet little kiss on the lips and a hug. Xena doesn't look       as happy as Gabrielle.               On their wedding night Gabrielle tells Perdicus she worries about Xena       missing her because she has no one, but Gabrielle has Perdicus.               Xena finds Theodorus sneaking around at night, puts the pinch on him and       asks where Callisto is. He doesn't know, but says Callisto knows Gabrielle       isn't with Xena.               The next morning, the newly weds are walking and don't hear Callisto       ride up on them. Perdicus gets between Gabrielle and Callisto, and gets cut       and knocked down. Callisto kicks Gabrielle to the ground and just before she       can run her through with a sword, Xena rides up, flips off her horse and       Callisto is hit with both feet in the chest.               They fight, Xena doing a bit better. Callisto runs off, stabbing       Perdicus on her way, saying his death will do.               Gabrielle cradles Perdicus head.               That evening is Perdicus' funeral pyre.               The next day Gabrielle wants Xena to show her how to use a sword to kill       Callisto. At first Xena refuses, but Gabrielle's so insistent, she give her       a few basic pointers.               Callisto and her men are celebrating. Callisto tells an adoring       Theodorus that if he's falling in love with her, she'll have to kill him.               That night, Xena prays to whoever is listening not to let Gabrielle's       light go out (from killing Callisto). Gabrielle sees her. Later she tells       Xena she wants to return home to mourn, and wants to leave right away.               The next morning Gabrielle sneaks into the cave and puts a sword to       Callisto's neck, but can't kill her. Callisto has her tied up and wood piled       around her to burn her at stake.               Xena sneaks into the cave, but when the men come alive, she is taken       prisoner and is strapped into Callisto's throne.               The fire is lit and Joxer comes running in to save the day. While       Callisto is jerking him around, Xena manages to lift her Chakram from       Callisto with the toe of her boot. She cuts herself free while Joxer is shot       with an arrow. Xena throws the Chakram to cut Gabrielle free. Everyone       fights.               Callisto runs out of the cave to one of two waiting chariots. She takes       one and Xena takes the other. They ride hard. Xena catches sup , but       Callisto has some kind of thing sticking out on the axle of hers and it       breaks the spokes of Xena's.               Xena uses a bull whip to latch onto Callisto's chariot and is dragged       behind it. She gradually pulls herself to the chariot and she and Callisto       fight. They go tumbling down a hill into quicksand.               While they are both sinking, Xena throws her Chakram to stick into the       trunk of fallen log and wraps the end of the whip around it and pulls       herself out.               While Callisto begs Xena to save her, Xena watches as Callisto sinks out       of sight and dies.               Xena tells Joxer he isn't hurt that bad and will have a nice scar.               The episode ends with Gabrielle thinking loving thoughts to Perdicus.              ………………..               Okay, yet ANOTHER great episode. If Callisto's in it, it HAS to be       good!               And once again, Gabrielle proves how much she has grown up, and with the       murder of her husband that the sweet little Gabrielle is gone – "Xena, wake       up and look around you! The little innocent Gabrielle is dead, and there’s       no getting her back."               And then her tirade to Xena about learning to use a sword – " OK.       Again. Again. Again! I’m gonna kill her. Again! Teach me. Teach me!       Teach me. Again. Again! Teach me how to kill her, Xena. I’m gonna cut       her open and watch her bleed. I’m gonna kill her, Xena! Teach me how to       kill her.”               But in the end, the goodness of Gabrielle's heart wouldn't let her take       a life. Xena's prayer was answered.               Of course the sweet insanity of Callisto was just perfect.               And I have to say, the sexually innocent Gabrielle coming onto Perdicus       on their wedding night --- Yowzah!! I should EVER be so lucky!               But the scene when Perdicus died and Gabrielle was cradling his head,       her face right down next to his was the one that I would have wanted to       be Perdicus. It just seems so much more intimate.               But, as usual there were the little things here and there that I have to       question –               All the while Callisto was strapped into the chair, how was she supposed              [continued in next message]              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
