From: daviderl31@yahoo.com              3-02 Been There, Done That               First air date Oct. 6, 1997               The episode starts out with a rooster crowing and Xena waking up       in a barn. Joxer comes in with goose eggs in his helmet telling them to rise       and shine. Gabrielle wakes up from under a pile of hay and says she'll rise       but refuses to shine. Someone in the loft drops a horseshoe into the eggs,       splattering them onto Joxer's face.               They are walking through the town and Joxer says he will go find       more goose eggs for Gabrielle. Two men are arguing in the town square as       Xena and Gabrielle pass by. They hear Joxer's voice and as they rush back,       he has been stabbed by one of the men and dies. That evening they burn his       body on a funeral pyre. Xena tells Gabrielle that tomorrow the pain will       hurt less and they go to sleep together.              The rooster crows again and Xena wakes up in the barn again. Joxer comes in       as the day before with the goose eggs. Xena is overjoyed to see him alive.       She thinks she had a dream until the Gabrielle says the same thing about       rising and shining and Joxer almost gets hit with the horseshoe.              Xena tries to explain as they walk thru the town. The same two men begin       arguing and Xena sends Gabrielle and Joxer to an alley. Xena stops the fight       but one of the men is killed. When they go back to the barn the man in the       barn says all the horses were killed, including Argo.              Every day starts the same --              Xena stops an old man from being run over by a horse and wagon. Xena sends       Gabrielle and Joxer to the alley. Xena stops the fight in the street, but in       the alley Gabrielle is stabbed and dies.              Joxer suggests it's the rooster. Xena kills the rooster but the day repeats       again.              She ties up Gabrielle and Joxer so neither will get killed. The day       repeats.              Xena has Joxer declare the three of them enemies of the warring families       and all three are killed by both sides. The day repeats.              Xena wakes up and throws her Chakram into Joxer's chest then goes back to       sleep. The day repeats.              Xena finally figures out she has to stop the cycle. She finds a broken vial       that contained Night's bane, a deadly poison.              She goes to a Healer who can't find it.              She goes to the village midwife to hear about everyone in town. She brokers       peace between the families by telling them how each is related to the other.              The day repeats.              Xena finally finds out who took the night's bane, a woman named Hermia. And       when her lover, Miron found out, he prayed to Cupid that the day would never       end until a hero came to make things right. The next day, Xena lets everyone       fight while she figures out angles and distances from the barn at one end of       town to where Hermia took the poison at the other end. At the end of the day       Gabrielle looks around and it appears everyone is dead.              The next morning, Xena throws her Chakram, it ricochets a couple dozen       times until it reaches Hermia and breaks the vial. Then she once again       brokers the peace between the two families.              The rooster crows again. Xena and Gabrielle are in the barn again, and Joxer       comes in again but this time he has turnips instead of goose eggs. The cycle       has ended              ''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''`````````````````````       Excellent episode. Lots of laughs and good performances by all three heroes.              Almost the opposite of 'The Furies'. Starts out very serious with Joxer       being killed, and Gabrielle's tears and pain. Then as the days begin       continue to repeat, the humor starts. No doubt I left out a lot of the days       (I counted 15 rooster crowings, including the first and last non-repeat days       and the 13 repeat days). And the ones I mentioned are probably out of       sequence.              Some of the highlights were -              Xena cradling Gabrielle when she died, hoping the day would start over.              Xena hugging Gabrielle when she wasn't dead and Joxer's "Group hug!"              Gabrielle putting her foot on Joxer's chest trying to extricate the buried       Chakram (got a GOOD laugh at that!) as Xena turned over to go back to sleep       sucking her thumb.              Xena trying over and over to explain what was happening, and Gabrielle's       expressions.              Gabrielle and Joxer's faces, sitting side by side as Xena explained, and       them still there at the end of the day (but it seemed to me that they had       changed sides).              Don't need to mention the movie "Groundhog Day."              Miron expecting Hercules to show up to save the day, or Sinbad.              One question - when they woke up for the last time, did the repeat days       repeat one more time with everything right, or did they go back to the barn       for the night and Gabrielle's stock answer is "I'll rise, but I refuse to       shine"?              Liked this one a lot. A 9 out of ten.              ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::              Been There, Done That 9       The Furies 6.5       Average score so far 7.75              David              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
