                               6.20 Soul Possession   
      
   First airing was on June 4, 2001.   
      
   This story starts out with Xena and Joxer high on a cliff looking out over   
   the Ionian Sea. Joxer is holding a scroll that is a marriage contract   
   between Xena and Ares. Xena has a vase with a stopper and intends to put the   
   scroll into the vase and hide it among the caverns under the sea so Ares can   
   never find it.   
      
   She tells Joxer it can only be destroyed by Ares since he created it. Joxer   
   rolls it up into another scroll he has written with the details. Xena takes   
   it and dives off the cliff into the sea.   
      
   Cut to modern times and two divers come up with the vase in hand, saying   
   their treasure-hunting days have finally paid off.   
      
   Cut to a press conference sponsored by C.H.A.K.R.A.M. (Center for the   
   Historical Accuracy of Key Research in Ancient Mythology). Fredrick Delaney   
   tells the audience of a scroll that was found concerning Xena. Two fans   
   demand a seventh season of "Xena" from Rob Tapert, but they are ejected by   
   two security guards.   
      
   Delaney says the scroll reveals that Xena was married to Ares. He begins   
   reading from the accompanying scroll. It starts after Gabrielle and Hope   
   fell into the lava pit, and right after Xena had the vision of her and   
   Gabrielle being nailed to crosses:   
      
   Xena realizes Gabrielle is still alive. She finds Joxer in a tavern, drunk.   
   She tells him Gabrielle is alive and she's going to find her. A drunk Joxer   
   stumbles after her.   
      
   Annie Day of the "Joxer the Mighty Quarterly" interrupts saying he is wrong,   
   and it was Joxer who initiated the search for Gabrielle and Xena was the one   
   in the drunken stupor. Delaney disputes her claim and tells her to sit down.   
      
   They take a short break.   
      
   The two fans have sneaked back in and ask Annie how she got over the horror   
   of finding out she was Joxer. Annie answers that Joxer was no fool, but the   
   guy they got to play his part was a goofball, and was the producer's   
   brother. They mention how cool it was to have hung out with X&G in a past   
   life. They asked what happened to Harry and Mattie. Annie, in tears, says   
   they got hitched.   
      
   Back to Joxer and Xena in the woods. Joxer has sobered up and says he has   
   decided to carry on Gabrielle's legacy and now he's a bard. He starts   
   reading from his scroll. Xena takes it away from him, reads more then throw   
   it back at him. She says she's going to the temple where Gabrielle died. She   
   says she's got to relieve herself and walks away.   
      
   Xena leans again  a tree and says out loud (to Gabrielle) that "we're not   
   doing so good" without her, but she's going to keep looking. Ares appears   
   and wants to know what's happening. He says he picked up a little something   
   about Gabrielle. He tells Xena she won't find anything at the lava pit.   
      
   When Xena asks why he cares, he says he does, and to trust him. She blames   
   him as much as Hope for Gabrielle falling into the pit. He says Gabrielle   
   might be alive but Xena will need his help to find her since he can cover a   
   thousand times the ground she can. She asks why he wants to help. He says   
   he's never could express his feelings. He gets down on one knee and with a   
   shit-eating grin, asks her to marry him.   
      
   Xena kicks him a dozen yards away. He asks if she need more time. When she   
   says no, he says she doesn't need more time? They fight some. He says as a   
   wedding gift he'll give her Gabrielle. She wants to know why she should   
   trust him. He says to prove he's serious he'll marry her in front of the   
   Fates.   
      
   Later Xena tells Joxer that a marriage in front of the Fate makes the bond   
   eternal and unbreakable. And Ares couldn't harm her or anyone she cares   
   about.   
      
   She tells him she will do anything to get Gabrielle back.   
      
   That night Xena is sleeping and hears Gabrielle's voice saying she is in   
   Xena's heart and Xena shouldn't come looking for her. It is really Joxer   
   with a parchment megaphone.   
      
   Cut back to modern times and Harry and Mattie arrive home after a trip to   
   Greece. When Mattie checks the pile of mail she finds the notice about the   
   conference and reads it. Harry says if the scroll is what he thinks it is   
   the world could be in a lot of trouble. They leave to get to the conference   
   before it's over.   
      
   Xena tells Ares that she will marry him to get Gabrielle back but has one   
   demand – she wants the ceremony to take place  at the lava pit, to be as   
   close as possible to the one person she was  meant to spend the rest of life   
   with as she gives herself to the one person she would never choose. He   
   chalks it up to pre-wedding jitters. He leaves to tell Zeus and Hera – her   
   future in-laws.   
      
   Joxer is in a tavern and yells out for Ares a couple of times. When he calls   
   him jelly butt, Ares appears with such force it knocks Joxer off his feet.   
   He says he has Ares' bachelor party planned. He calls out three beautiful   
   women.   
      
   Ares thinks Joxer is trying to con him out of marrying Xena and tells the   
   women to go. Then Joxer has a large three-layer cake brought out. Meg pops   
   out of the top in a whipped cream bikini and starts singing. Joxer is   
   shocked it is Meg. Ares teleports away.   
      
   Joxer wants to know what Meg is doing in the cake. She's trying to earn   
   extra dinars. He says he's going to take her away from "all this." When Meg   
   asks about Gabrielle, he says she's dead. Meg takes Joxer's flask and says   
   she'll drink to that. Joxer is angry and says he's going to try to get   
   Gabrielle back.   
      
   Harry and Mattie arrive at the conference and sit behind Annie, who's not   
   happy to see them. Harry says he knows enough about the scroll to know how   
   it turns out. Annie tells him not to ruin it for her. She hates when people   
   blab the Spoilers. He tells her there is real possibility Ares might show   
   up.   
      
   Cut to a motorcycle with a rider dressed in black. Flowers die as it passes.   
      
   Joxer comes in where Xena is getting dressed for the wedding. He says if she   
   is going to go through with it she must really believe Gabrielle is alive.   
   He gives her a lock of Gabrielle's hair for something old, the first flower   
   of the season for something new, his lucky rabbit's foot for something   
   borrowed. And for something blue, it’s him. Xena hugs him and says   
   everything's going to be fine.   
      
   Ares and the Fates are in the temple filled with candles and Xena comes in   
   wearing her wedding dress comes in. The Fates begin the ceremony. In the   
   name of Zeus, Ares says "I do" to taking Xena for his eternal partner.   
      
   In the name of Hera, Xena answers, "I do --- not." She grabs the contract
