That's a simplistic thing to say.

X-Files has a continuity running through the seasons called "reality".
So while it's dealing with sci-fi, monsters, the paranormal etc, it's
style isn't one of fantasy - the normal rules of living on planet Earth
   apply.

People going into a room, putting on 3d goggles and then literally
"vanishing inside a computer" is fantasy.

I'd welcome it in a show like The Twilight Zone or The Outer Limits,
where there isn't a continuity of "this program is set on planet Earth,
as we know it". But The X-Files? No way.

It would be like an episode of MacGyver where the title character
swallows a pill that makes him invisible or can make him fly. It's
   melding two different formats together.

The episode actually wasn't a bad episode - it was just a ridiculous
   premise for an *X-Files* episode.

I've been watching every ep in order over the past few years (certainly
not at the rate of one a day, unlike some people), to me this is the
first time that I've said "Jesus ... JUMP THE SHARK".

......... now I return you to your regularly scheduled fanboi "reviews"
talking about ties and "how cute Mulder was in this ep!"
