   As a non-obsessive fan of the show, I would answer that way, yes. I   
   think the main arc of the show was, well, the main arc. In that sense,   
   I think that aliens and gov't conspiracies *are* what the show is   
   essentially about.   
      
   However, my favorite episodes have always been the standalones. The   
   main arc got so convoluted and just plain boring that I lost patience.   
   So I was very happy that the movie was basically a longer, better   
   standalone episode, with nary an alien, shadow government or Smoking   
   Man in attentance. :)

   Didn't you know, the Cold War is back? :) And - not that the writer could   
   have known this while writing the script - the Russians *have* been bad   
   guys lately. In any case, I don't think American prejudice against them   
   has changed that much even post-Communism. Now, instead of being creepy   
   KGB agents in various action and suspense movies, they're creepy Russian   
   Mafia and criminals.
