   Half the time my detailed responses demolishing the ideas of the ignorant   
   are totally lost on them. It doesn't really matter.   
      
   If my post impressed you and other smart folks with how brilliant I am and   
   how much I rock, then it already served its TRUE purpose. #8^P>   
      
   It's my experience that very often, 'debating' someone on Usenet is best   
   seen as a sort of academic exercise, in which one sharpens one's own ideas   
   and understanding, rather than a genuine attempt to convince one's   
   opponent -- since the latter is rarely capable of actually learning   
   anything.   
      
   Half the time my arguments are actually directed more at the other random   
   people who might be reading than to the poster I'm actually supposedly   
   replying to.
