ebd749a0       ] 6:47am From: john@johndoherty.com              ]You guys readily accept all manner of plots       ] about paranormal activity, then get all het up       ] about the sow not adhering to specific medical       ] protocol. The writers sacrificed medical       ] accuracy in order to give us an exciting chase       ] sequence in the show.              Writers? They have writers on this show? If they do they are paying them       way too much for the work they are doing on the show.              ]I hate to break the news but not all dramas       ] observe extreme reality. For instance, we       ] never see them sleep for 8 hours in a row;-)       ] Even on non paranormal shows, there is a       ] willing suspension of disbelief that the viewer       ] brings.              And you never see anyone using the bathroom either. We get that! The       thing is you can only "Suspend Disbelief" so much, before the entire       Story Line becomes one big Joke.              ]All the carping about her acting, I don't get       ] either. I find it decent but unremarkable. Her       ] role is to be there as a surrogate for the       ] viewer, a button down type who is trying to       ] integrate increasingly bizarre in of into her       ] worldview. As such, she's likely being directed       ] to play it way down, almost monotone, with       ] little finches of disbelief or shock.              Her acting is terrible, and you know it! She is such a one note, and       monotone actress, that she can ruin any scene she is in, and she usually       does. And she tries so hard to cover her Scandinavian accent that it       pops out every now, and then. Just try to "suspend disbeleif" when she       does that.              ]She's also there as eye candy, and she serves              Eye Candy? I have never seen a plainer Jane in my life! She is about as       sexy as a door knob.              ]Blair Brown is also wonderful as Bell's COO       ] and also a great shout out to Altered States.              She has not aged very well. And she was great in Altered States, she is       just so-so on Fringe.              ]And the guy who said they need to cast a       ] better Mulder and Scully? I got news: X-Files       ] is no longer in production as a TV show. This       ] ain't it. This show is not trying to fetishistically       ] recreate that one, though you seem to hope it       ] would.              Maybe they need to be more like the X-FIles was. At least that show was       well made, unlike this show that was put together by amateurs. I think       they thought it would be cancelled after a few weeks, so they are now       making it up as they go along, and it shows. The writing is bad, the       acting is bad, the "premise" is the only thing good about it. I have       high hopes that they wil get the show, and their act together, when they       move to Vancover.              ]This show owes a lot to the X-Files, but in a       ] way that X-Files owed a lot to The Night       ] Stalker. It also owes a lot to Altered States       ] and the Twilight Zone and about 5 other       ] things. Let shows be their own shows, and       ] accept the influences for what they are without       ] trying to morbidly force things into a lost       ] moment of great TV from years past.              I always try to let shows be their own shows, but some shows just lose       their way. I have lost interest in a lot of shows because they are no       longer entertaining. Fringe is an example of a bad TV show right now,       but it has the potential to be a great TV show. All they really need are       better writers, and better actors!              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
