   From the NUFORC database torus or toroidal UFOs are   
   very rare. Only ~4 have been seen since at least the 1950s.   
      
   A couple were described as "toroidal energy ring" like   
   it was a thing.   
      
   But there are only 2 reports like that I can see reported.   
   So it wasnt a thing. :)   
      
   Objects in NUFORC described as "plasma" are far more common.   
   Dozens of reports.   
      
   My A/I software has  checked  the yearly distribution of   
   "plasma" UFO reports and amazingly concluded they closely   
   match the changes in the upper atmosphere temperatures seen   
   in 2 places -- the US lower 48 and the Norwegian island   
   of Svalbard. It may be an unknown class of energy phenomenon   
   related to upper atm conditions possible involving incoming   
   hard radiation from the sun.
