Ratcliffe: UFO sighting numbers 'far greater' than publicly disclosed

   DNI Ratcliffe has indicated the true number of UFO sightings is   
   much larger than officially published.

   An interesting twiddle you can do with anything the Pentagon publishes   
   is to use the so-called "editor's formula" to determine the true   
   number of UFO sightings that may be out there, and therefore deduce   
   the number of sightings that may still be secret.   
      
   The editor's formula is normally used to decide how many errors may   
   still be in a manuscript given 2 editors have cast their (independent)   
   eyes over it. Given the number of errors found by each editor,   
   the number they found in common, and a little probability theory from   
   highschool you can "guesstimate" how many errors are in the M/S in   
   total and therefore how many there may still be in there that have not   
   been discovered by either editor.   
      
   If, as we might suspect, the much-publicized 120 sightings in the Big Report   
   (when finalized) may never have been reported to MUFON, NUFORC or anywhere   
   else, then the calculation would show the true number of sightings might   
   be very very large and the "secret number" also very very large.   
      
   But we shall await the actual published text (if made available) before   
   we'll go through the calculation.
