28 Jul 2021: a busy night over Melbourne
   23 Sep 21 07:05:35

I've seen a few things flying over Melbourne in the past few years.
Some of them no doubt have a prosaic explanation. Some are unlikely
   to have a prosaic explanation.

But the night of Jul 28 2021 kinda takes the cake. So far.

I've reported it to local UFO organisation(s) but being Australia
there was not even an acknowledgement. There might have been an
up-tick in searches of my online info shortly after. I find a lot of
anonymous IP's with no known hostname are active these days. They
might be hackers. Some of them geolocate to interesting places in the
US with big military or other complexes nearby.Or it might be my
   paranoia acting up again.

Anyway. It's taken a while to process what I saw as is often the case
with these things. I never like to report anything that may be too
unusual. But after checking around it seems this sighting is fairly
"normal" for this kind of thing. And it also seems to jive with
another of my current hobby-horses -- the sighting came 1 week before
COVID cases in Melbourne started to go through the roof. Up till then
they had been on the decline after the 5th location since the start of
   the pandemic.

Around 8.30 pm I went out as usual to my patio area with a cup of
coffee and started watching the sky. I live in almost rural Victoria.
The neighbour next door has a big garage that blocks off anything
below about 20 deg above the horizon. There is also a 2.5m-tall
fence. I also have a roof over the patio that blocks anything to the
S of me and obscures a lot to the E and W as well.

If I get up and walk out into the hard I can see a little from the S.
The glow from Melb is on the S horizon, but I cant see that from the
patio. There's a front porch for that.

I was watching and sipping the coffee. As on many nights the action
started pretty soon after I went out there. First there was the flash
of a brief meteor over to the N. I think it came down right to left
and lasted about 1 sec. I think it was blue.

I went into alert mode. From experience I know these things come in bunches.

A few mins later I heard a chopper coming up from the S. It went over
my house as they often do and haded north. Almost directly to where
the fireball had flashed. It seemed to be a normal chopper. Maybe the
police chopper. Maybe another one. Nav lights flashing. Normal. I
have seen unusual helicopters in the past couple ys. But this wasn't
   one of those.

As the chopper disappeared into the distance just over the neighbours
garage there was ANOTHER flash as a meteor came down pretty much in
the same region as the first. This one was white and came down from
left to right and lasted about 1 sec.

Unusual you should see 2 meteors in the same part of the sky framing
the transit of a helicopter, I thought to myself.

I got up and walked a little into the yard.

Out of the corner of my left eye -- i.e. to the west -- 2 "sparks"
suddenly appeared quite high in the sky. They gave me a bit of a
start. They may have appeared out of nowhere. I.e. not travelled from
the S. They were headed north. They zig-zagged in approx
parallel. Flying quite fast and unusual that they seemed to fly
somewhat independently but in short straight sections with sudden
turns. They were bright enough they seemed to leave an after-image of
each segment of their flight paths.

They headed north for 1-2 sec then started to zig-zag curve off to the
NW where they disappeared in another 1-2 sec.

I walked a bit further into the yard and turned around to look over my
patio roof to the S. The roofline was maybe 30 deg down from the
   zenith.

SHOCK. A huge black boomerang appeared over the roof moving pretty
slow. And apparently pretty low. It came right over the top of me and
headed pretty much north, directly behind me.

While it was overhead I could see underneath it had 3 or 4 rows of
slightly illuminated circles along both wings. Each circle seemed to
have an illuminated dot in the center. The shape was a classical
boomerang otherwise. Rounded at each end. Symmetrical. Shallow V
angle. It was quite wide -- maybe the width of 2 hands at arms length
end to end. ~15 degrees maybe.

As it was overhead I also noticed there were at least little sparks
flying under the object, near the trailing edge. Maybe they were
coming and going inside the thing. The overhead part of the sighting
didn't last long and I was in kinda shock by this point.

The thing continued to move slowly over me and then off to the north
over the neighbours garage line. It didn't seem to have a rudder or
tail. But it was hard to see in the dark. You could really only see it
against the stars and dim glow of highway lights off in the distance
in that dir. Maybe it was thick in the center and tapered off to each
end. It disappeared into the gloom in the distance probably a few deg
above the flat roof of the garage.

The whole thing was over in less than a minute. Maybe only 10-20 sec.

I initially thought it might have been "something normal".

The sparks might have been birds with reflections from ground lights
off their bellies. But they seemed far too bright and pointlike for
that. I live in semi-rural Victoria. There are highway lights and a
couple supermarkets within 10 km off to the NW. I've seen other birds
fly at night and they look diffuse and not point sources. Of course
the zig zag flight of the first pair of sparks could have been
parrots. They do fly like that. But they also make a hell of a racket
when they fly. This whole episode was perfectly quiet apart from the
   chopper.

The boomerang could have been a flock of birds I thought. But it
seemed totally solid and symmetric. Birds I see flocking around in the
daylight wheel around and don't maintain a constant distance from each
other. The don't fly straight and level and constant speed. The
boomerang seemed quite solid and the rows of circles underneath seemed
to in precise parallel rows equi-distant from each other and the
   spacing didn't change over time.

It might be a B-2 bomber. But this one was silent.

It might be an experimental military aircraft. Those circles with dots
in their centers could have been rows of propellers powered by electric
   motors.

Maybe it wasn't as big as I thought. Just a large remote-controlled
drone. Somewhat unusual to have (judging by the rows of circles)
   60-100 propellers. I have built a couple quad drones. 100 hobby-type
motors might lift 50 kg. It just "seemed" to be a bit more weighty
than that. Again, judging by the rows of circles it had to have a
minimum wingspan of 20m. If the circles had a diameter bigger than
10cm then it was way bigger.

   So maybe military and secret.

The possible association with the chopper is also unusual. Was it
slip-streaming a police chopper? Was it some kind of escort? Was it a
chase where the target was successfully evading?

All seemingly on the unusual end of the spectrum.

So a couple months later I'm starting to suspect it was maybe
