|    "drones" seen over Swedish nuke plants    |
|    18 Jan 22 05:42:40    |
Apropos the apparent almost nightly fun and games over Melbourne where       it appears light aircraft regularly chase after lights in the sky       (Melbourne Airport is ~20km to the SW of me) I saw this report via a       few news agencies that simply said "drones". But no descriptions of       what exactly was seen.              After some googling at least one of the drone reports concerned a       light in the sky. Bingo.                      Sweden's spy agency probes drones over 3 nuclear plants        ABC News, 17 Jan 2022 14:41Z               Mysterious Drone Incursions Confirmed Over Sweden's Nuclear ...        The Drive, 15 Jan 2022        A reactor at the Forsmark Nuclear Power Plant. ... appears to show a bright        single point of light in the sky, but little can be made of it.                     Here in outer Melbourne you can fairly regularly see lights moving       around in the sky. Of course a good fraction of these look like       satellites and act like satellites, in particular they move in paths       that seem to conventionally orbit the earth, moving in the direction       of the earth's rotation.              But a good fraction are either way too bright for satellites (the       brightest ones are way brighter than Sirius that is generally hanging       around the night sky at the moment), and/or fly below the level of the       clouds, and/or move in paths that are not possible are at least are       extremely unlikely to be satellites.              Sometimes you can see more than one of the objects in the sky at the       same time and more often you can see multiple objects (the record for       me at the moment is about a dozen and I'm not talking sat trains like       Space-X) over the course of 5-10 minutes.              But the kicker to this is the aircraft also often seen headed toward       the general location of the moving lights or that show up within       minutes of said lights being spotted.              A couple of nights back I was out in my front yard -- as usual now on       clear nights in summer -- and I saw one of the familiar small       aircraft, that has a weird set of white led-lights on the bottom that       flash in some unusual pattern, headed straight toward me from the S.       The appearance of such aircraft is now a tip-off to start looking       around for something strange moving around in the sky.              And, sure enough, I turned 180 and Orion had a 4th star in his belt       and it was moving east at a reasonable clip. It just looked like a       sat, about as bright as the other belt stars, and moving at around the       usual rate. But it seems the object was "seen" by the plane.              By the time the plane got to my area the "sat" had moved off over big       trees to the east of me.              What did the plane do? It seemed at first to be just headed N after       passing to the E of me high in the sky. But then it started to turn       right and -- surprise! -- seemed to be headed to where the light was       last visible.              It also disappeared over the big trees to the east but I later saw it       orbiting over to the east of me and it overflew my yard a couple of       times before I saw it headed down SW presumably back to the big airport.              Either these guys are real interested to get photos of satellites they       could otherwise seemingly get from large ground-based telescopes, or       maybe more likely they are chasing off what they may perceive as       "drones" or unid-ed aircraft that are threatening airport operations.              The fact some of these light aircraft -- and lately the bunch seems to       include one small jet -- have large arrays of unusual lights that have       little to do with nav lights suggests the lights are part of the "warn       off" load-out.              There is my old pal "xmas tree" with the triangular display of       flashing white leds on the bottom.       There is another monstrosity that has white leds on the bottom and a       flashing big red led on a pole seemingly mounted over the aircraft cabin.              Another thing we see a lot seems to be a very very quiet chopper with       a large flashing red light in a concave area just under the nose.       This thing has overflown a couple of times and man it makes almost no       noise at all. Such features have been reported in some of the cattle       mutilation cases involving unmarked helicopters I note. It seems to       be a new boy. Previous strange choppers included on that made a lot of       noise like a chopper but had zero lights but -- amusingly -- what was       visible when it flew over was a vague light-colored rectangle.              So it's all fun and games until the first someone that gits hurt.                     --       Military veterans urge truth told about unidentified aerial phenomena incidents       Minot Daily News, 31 Dec 2021 06:27Z       Fifty-five years ago in Sept 1966, Air Force members from Minot Air       Force Base experienced an incident in the Minot ...              Chinese Rover Finds Water on the Moon       The Debrief, 14 Jan 2022       China's Chang'E-5 rover has found evidence of water molecules on the       surface of the moon.
