Mysterious lights spotted `all over San Diego' as dozens of residents
speculate UFOs are hovering over the Pacific Ocean
     The Sun, 28 Jun 2022 12:44Z
DRAMATIC footage shows a series of bright lights hovering over San Diego.
The bizarre video shared online on Mon fuelled ...

Just saw this snipped in my inbox about lights over Sandy Eggo.
Haven't followed up on the details, but sparked some interest given
I've been out this clear and rather chilly evening to watch a
presumably similar display over my area of semi-rural Victoria.AU.

As on many evenings in the past month things kick off around 6pm with
yellow lights appearing in the sky. At one time they would appear,
move reasonably quickly over 1/2 the sky, and disappear before getting
   near the horizon.

But there's apparently been a change of behaviour maybe something to
do with the local "area patrols" mounted by a few noisy light aircraft
and a jet or 2 fitted out with weird arrays of lights.

These days the yellow lights appear high in the sky, sometimes don't
move, and fade out. This can cycle for a few times. Sometimes they do
still move off a bit, but generally they disappear again within a
   couple seconds.

But as I said the real interesting thing is the light aircraft that
oftentimes turn up to see the show.

Tonight was a bit more hectic than usual. Around 6pm maybe 6 yellow
lights started up, moved a bit, then disappeared, one after the other
over a period of maybe 30 mins. There were also about a dozen dim
lights moving over the sky in various directions, 1/2 probably sats
because they came from the NW, W or SW -- but the other 1/2 either
polar or apparently counter-rotating and maybe not normal sats. These
events were punctuated by the appearance of first 1 or 2 light prop
aircraft and then a screaming jet, all fitted out with various
flashing lights. Not nav lights on the wings. But big lights on the
belly and in a couple of cases lights mounted on some structure on the
   top of the aircraft.

I watched the activities for an hr or so. The most spectacular today
involved a dimmer light over to the east moving left to right visible
just above some enormous trees growing over in that direction. The
light was moving at sat speed and, indeed, you would normally think it
was some kind of polar sat moving N to S.

But within seconds of the thing being noticed by me a light aircraft
came screaming at high speed in from the N (left). I settled down to
see if it could catch up to the dim light that had 1/2 a sky head-start
on it. But, yes, it caught up and passed "totally by coincidence" just
under where the dim light was still moving left to right. I thought
the aircraft might suddenly throttle down to take a gander. Or the
dim light might zip off, disappear, or otherwise do something. But, no.
The aircraft kept moving at high speed S out of view and the dim
little light also kept moving for a few more sec before disappearing
in the haze nr the horizon.

The odd thing, of course, is if the dim light was a sat then it would
be equally-well seen from anywhere in the region. If it was up 100 km
then a km or 2 left or right down here would make no difference to
whether it was visible or not. You wouldn't be needing to race after
   it "to get closer".

Some other similar objects over the past couple ys have been measured,
roughly, at travelling only 2 km up. I have a property about 30m wide
and when I felt fitter I would sometimes look at some object in the
sky, run to the other side of the property, and look again. The 10-20
deg parallax against the fixed stars told the altitude story.

I'm just back -- now around midnight local time -- from another few
mins outside. Apart from a couple of meteors -- unusually a speedy
blue one over in the E and just a few mins later a slow dim orange one
over in the W -- there was a noisy light aircraft over to the NE
apparently headed further NE with an array of lights flashing and
apparently shining up into the sky "for some reason".

I tend to hear the same loud engine go over around midnight every
night, and come back a few times until dawn. As I say, some kind of
"area patrol" I think. There was a newspaper story some time back that
the "govt" was looking at cataloging suspicious satellites
discovered surveilling the country. Some people might think this plane
activity is part of that. But -- as I say -- you shouldn't need to chase
after satellites in a plane. Esp a plane clearly travelling under
2000m. If it was at 10000 or higher, then maybe to get above the cloud
layer. But not below the clouds. So it sounds like a nonsense cover story.
