XPost: alt.astronomy              SpaceX's Falcon Heavy, world's most powerful rocket, launches US military       satellites in 1st flight in 3 years       Space.com, 01 Nov 2022 22:25Z       SpaceX's Falcon Heavy rocket, which consists of 3 of the company's       modified Falcon 9 first-stage boosters strapped ...              In other news the Black Vault has uncovered a brief related paper       from NASA's UFO research group's chair.       David Spergel's 4-page paper on "terrestrial or extraterrestrial"       briefly considers the question -- suggesting many have the       characteristics of Russian & Chinese hypersonic weapons -- and seems to       come down on the side of "not enough data" and needing to build special       all-sky cameras to watch the skies for unusual things.       Apparently all the high precision super satellites NASA currently run       have seen nothing unusual; not even hypersonic missiles taking off       from Russia or China.              --       "Nothing in life is to be feared, it is only to be understood.       Now is the time to understand more, so that we may fear less."       - Marie Curie              How big a deal is NASA's new UFO study?       [image] An unidentified flying object, as seen by a US Navy jet.       Space.com, 18 July 2022       In early June, NASA announced that it's commissioning an independent study       on unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP), as UFOs have recently been rebranded.       The intent is to move the scientific understanding of UAP forward, said       Thomas Zurbuchen, NASA's associate administrator for science.       "NASA believes that the tools of scientific discovery are powerful and apply       here also," Zurbuchen said in a statement (opens in new tab). "We have       access to a broad range of observations of Earth from space - and that       is the lifeblood of scientific inquiry. We have the tools and team who can       help us improve our understanding of the unknown. That's the very definition       of what science is. That's what we do."       The UAP study team will be led by astrophysicist David Spergel, previously       the chair of the astrophysics department at Princeton University.       "Given the paucity of observations, our first task is simply to gather       the most robust set of data that we can," Spergel said in the NASA       statement. "We will be identifying what data -- from civilians,       govt, non-profits, companies -- exists, what else we should try       to collect and how to best analyze it."       [The investigation of why NASA has missed something obvious to many       for the past 65+ years will come later. But it argues that classical       approaches of Organised Science might draw another blank on UFO's].              Canadian Government Releases New Details On UFO Incidents, Some Where       Fighter Jets Were Scrambled       BroBible, 01 Nov 2022 14:41Z       With the United States govt and NASA showing a newfound interest in at       least appearing to take UFOs seriously, other ...              [Still In Denial:]       Pentagon attributes UFO sightings to spies, airborne trash       Military Times, 01 Nov 2022 0:48Z       Today, intelligence officials are set to deliver Congress with a new report       on unexplained aerial phenomenon, better known as ...              UFOs: Canadian air force responds to 'threats' with CF-18 fighter jets       CTV News, 31 Oct 2022 20:28Z       While the Canadian govt and military usually don't respond to reports       of unidentified flying objects, there have been ...              New classified report to congress says only HALF of UFO sightings can be       properly explained       Daily Mail, 31 Oct 2022 15:49Z       Sources tell DailyMail.com that a classified report is due to be sent to       Congress listing more than 150 cases of unexplained ...              Op-Ed: NASA studying UFOs won't prove alien life exists. They should do it       anyway       YAHOO!News, 31 Oct 2022 10:03Z       The govt has renewed interest in UFOs.
