OK. I have saved that away to look throuh slowly.

A first comment on something I saw on way through -- calculating
the distance between 2 points on a sphere or almost-sphere is
by a simple formula "great circle distance". The curve between
2 points is part of a circle with center at the center of the
Earth and a set of cos and sin's is enough to turn the
difference of latitudes and the difference of longitudes into
   a distance in meters.

But I shell read it slowly and see what occurs to me. It seems
to be roughly the same general idea of some of the things I
tried to find out about from emails to web sites and they didn't answer.:)

THinking about making your cell-phone hardened to (whatever)
kind of countermeasures "someone" might throw at it is probably
beyond the scope of anyone at present. Massive EM fields that can
turn off an ICBM silo or suck the power out of a car battery
   maybe can't be defended against.

But I wouldnt be going near anything anytime soon. Some of these
things seem to be dangerous and maybe have a lot of experience
dealing with earthlings. Maybe only the "nice" ones run away
   when jets turn up. Some of the others may not be so well-mannered. :}

Anyway. Thanks for the reading material. I'll post something in a couple days.
