   The planet never recovered  from the massive oxygenation event that   
   killed off all the anaerobic bacteria. Photosynthesis destroyed their   
   environment.   
      
   And without the handy intervention of humans, might never have recycled   
   all the plant waste locked away in coal seams depriving the planet's   
   plants  of needed CO2.
