It's a little more complicated. School bus routes go where the kids are
and that changes often. There are some rally points but there are also
stops at a particular house. I would sometimes field odd GIS questions. In
one case the house was up on a hill with a long, winding driveway that
entered the main road some distance away. The coordinates for the Smith
house weren't a suitable place to kick the kids off the bus and they
didn't have an easy way to create a discrete point for the actual
   driveway.

With the common use of GPS receivers most buildings have a discrete set of
coordinates rather than the old geocoding method that wasn't very precise.
The problem is if you want to modify the building's location. It may be
because of an entry point like above or you might want the location to be
   covered by a different agency.

I was very seldom involved in that side of the business. Some of our
people moved over but I don't know if I would have were I younger. Same
building, different culture with a lot more siloing and micro management.
