   A man was shot by a security guard outside of a business on Canal Street   
   Friday morning, according to the New Orleans Police Department.   
      
   Authorities said that a security guard for a business fired his weapon after   
   getting into an altercation with the man outside of the building.   
      
   A staff worker at a convenience store across the street, who asked not to be   
   named, said she heard a popping sound at the time of the shooting. The worker   
   said she did not witness the incident, but thought the loud noise was a tire   
   blowout at the time.   
      
   Officers responded to the call at 9:39 a.m. in the 700 block of Canal Street,   
   where they found the man with at least one gunshot wound, police said.   
   Paramedics transferred him to a local hospital.   
      
   The security guard was not arrested, authorities said.   
      
   An area spanning a half-block out from where the shooting occurred was blocked   
   with crime scene tape, and police were still there at around 11 a.m.   
      
   Four NOPD officers were seen standing guard outside of Adler's Jewelry Store   
   at around 11:20 a.m. A pile of trash was sitting in front of the door, next to   
   the police officers’ feet. At 11:30 a.m., a New Orleans fire truck parked in   
   front of the    
   jewelry store.   
      
   Firefighters proceeded to hose the cement in front of the building, pushing   
   the trash further away from the scene. NOPD officers started taking down tape   
   at 11:38 a.m.   
      
   No other information was immediately available. The shooting remains under   
   investigation.
