   A 29-year-old St. Paul man has been charged, accused of killing a Minneapolis   
   man at a hotel in Eagan on Monday.   
      
   Robert Lee Baker is charged in Dakota County District Court with second-degree   
   murder and possession of a firearm by an ineligible person in connection to   
   the killing of Maurice Antonio Anderson, 29, of Minneapolis.   
      
   According to the criminal complaint, Eagan police responded to the Sonesta   
   Suites Hotel at 8:59 p.m. on Nov. 9 after several calls to 911 were made   
   reporting a shooting.   
      
   One of the callers said a man was lying on the ground outside the hotel, while   
   another caller reported a red car leaving at a high rate of speed, court   
   documents state.   
      
   Officers arrived to find Anderson non-responsive with what appeared to be   
   multiple gunshot wounds, charges state. He died at the scene.   
      
   Shortly after, officers located a vehicle that matched the description given   
   in the 911 call. Baker was in the front passenger seat. Both he and the   
   driver, identified in the complaint as J.M.A., were arrested.   
      
   J.M.A. told police she and Baker had gone to the hotel to meet up with her   
   friend. At one point, the friend got into the backseat of their car.   
      
   Shortly after, two men approached and also got in the backseat. They both had   
   guns and told them to drive. J.M.A. complied, driving a short distance before   
   pulling over.   
      
   J.M.A. told police the men got out of the car and robbed her and Baker, the   
   complaint says. She said she believes Baker got out of the car and shortly   
   after she heard shooting, but she doesn't know what happened.   
      
   After the shooting stopped, Baker got back into the car and they drove her   
   friend back to where she was staying, the complaint states. Police stopped   
   their vehicle shortly after they dropped off the friend.   
      
   In an interview with police, Baker recounted a similar series of events that   
   unfolded but changed his story from three men robbing them to two, charges say.   
      
   He also told police after they were robbed, the suspects ran away and he got   
   out of the car and chased them with a gun, yelling at them to give his stuff   
   back.   
      
   Baker said one of the men pointed a gun at him so he started shooting, but   
   then later noted both men pointed guns at him and he fired his gun, hitting   
   one of them. He didn't know how many shots he fired.   
      
   Officers found 16 discharged casings at the scene where Anderson was found;   
   the casings were consistent with the .40 caliber handgun Baker said he used to   
   shoot the victim, charges say. In a search of the vehicle, police found a .40   
   caliber handgun and a    
   BB gun. Baker told police after he shot Anderson, he collected J.M.A.'s stolen   
   phone and the gun used in the robbery.   
      
   Investigators also interviewed J.M.A.'s friend, who said she got into their   
   car to buy some Percocet, the complaint states. When police pulled over J.M.A.   
   and Baker, they could see a small plastic baggie of pills under the driver's   
   seat.   
      
   The friend said after she got in the car, two men hopped into the backseat   
   with guns, charges say. One of the men said to Baker, "Remember me,   
   [expletive]?" before robbing them, getting out of the car and running away.   
      
   The friend said Baker got out of the car with a gun and chased them, shooting   
   multiple times. He got back into the car and said "I got the [expletive]" and   
   then they dropped her back at the hotel, telling her she shouldn't tell anyone   
   what happened.   
      
   The medical examiner said Anderson died of 11 gunshot wounds, including one in   
   his head, three in his back and one in his buttocks, the complaint says.   
      
   Baker is not allowed to have a firearm due to his criminal history, which   
   includes convictions for first-degree aggravated robbery and second-degree   
   assault with a dangerous weapon from 2012, the complaint states. He also has a   
   hold from the state    
   Department of Corrections for a prior conviction for being a felon in   
   possession of a firearm from 2016.   
      
   Baker's bail was set at $1.5 million without conditions, Sun This Week   
   reports. His next court appearance is scheduled for Nov. 25.
