XPost: alt.fan.rush-limbaugh, mn.politics, alt.politics.obama       XPost: talk.politics.guns, sac.politics       From: democrats@caused.it              A Minneapolis man has been convicted of a sexual assaulting and kidnapping two       woman happened over a decade ago, marking the first trial to come from the       findings of the multi-agency Sexual Assault Kit Initiative.              James Andrew Works, 49, kidnapped and sexually assaulted two victims in June       2010. He's set to be sentenced May 8, according to court documents.              In a news release, the Hennepin County Attorney's Office said the sexual       assault kits related to the case did not undergo forensic testing after the       investigator lost contact with both victims. Works was convicted in a two-week       jury trial on Friday.              The DNA testing moved forward in 2021 and a profile matched Works. Both       victims in the case identified Works from a photo. Two other women also       testified during the jury trial, claiming Works had sexually assaulted them in       2008.              According to the criminal complaint, the two women were standing near a bus       stop in Minneapolis when Works approached them with a gun. He told them to go       to a secluded area behind a garage where he sexually assaulted them. During       the assault, he        threatened to shoot them both. Police were later able to swab the ground for       DNA evidence.              "Victims deserve justice and our community needs to know that we will not let       those who commit these crimes go without accountability,” Hennepin County       Attorney Mary Moriarty stated. “We are prioritizing this work and I am       grateful for the        partnership and work of MPD and BCA, along with our staff who worked on this       case. I hope the victims in this case feel some sense of relief after these       verdicts.”              The Minneapolis Sexual Assault Kit Initiative was launched in 2020 to test       previously untested sexual assault kits from the police department. As of       Monday, four cases have been charged.              Works has been convicted on two counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct       and two counts of kidnapping in connection with the 2010 incident.              https://bringmethenews.com/minnesota-news/jury-convicts-minneapo       is-man-of-2010-sexual-assault-kidnapping-case              --- SoupGate-DOS v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
