   SIOUX FALLS — A Sioux Falls man is behind bars after police say engaged in   
   sexual contact with a runaway child on the city’s east side.   
      
   Cornell Jones, 20, of Sioux Falls, was charged Wednesday with fourth-degree   
   rape, solicitation of a minor and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.   
   South Dakota law defines fourth-degree rape as the rape of a victim between 13   
   and 16 years old with    
   a perpetrator at least three years older than the victim.   
      
   The charges stem from shortly after 8 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 31, when police say   
   it was discovered that Jones was sheltering a 15-year-old girl who had run   
   away from home at a motel room in the 2600 block of East 10th Street.   
      
   According to police spokesman Sam Clemens, authorities first began searching   
   for the girl after receiving a report that she had left home. While the search   
   was underway, Clemens said authorities were informed that Jones had been   
   messaging the girl on    
   Instagram.   
      
   “They had a conversation, there were a lot of different things that were   
   said, and at one point he arranged to have her picked up and brought to that   
   motel room,” Clemens said.   
      
   The girl had stayed with Jones in the motel room for one or two days, Clemens   
   estimated, adding that investigators learned there had been sexual contact   
   between the two. Clemens said the two did not know each other before they   
   began messaging on    
   Instagram.   
      
   Jones was taken into custody and lodged in the Minnehaha County Jail, where   
   records indicate he’s being held without bond. He’s expected to appear in   
   a Minnehaha County courtroom Thursday afternoon.   
      
   Fourth-degree rape, the most serious charge lodged against Jones, carries a   
   maximum sentence of 15 years in prison and fines of up to $30,000.
