   LONG BEACH, CA - A 22-year-old man has been sentenced to 51 years in state   
   prison for raping a woman in Long Beach and assaulting another woman in Signal   
   Hill in attacks less than two weeks apart in 2014, the Los Angeles County   
   District Attorney's Office    
   announced today.   
      
   Raymond Demetrius Howard of Long Beach pleaded no contest Tuesday to one count   
   each of forcible rape, forcible oral copulation and assault with intent to   
   commit a felony.   
      
   Howard -- who was ordered to register as a sex offender for the rest of his   
   life -- also admitted that he inflicted great bodily injury and that he   
   personally used a weapon in the commission of both of the crimes and that he   
   had a prior strike for    
   robbery.   
      
   The charges involve a June 29, 2014 attack on a woman in Long Beach who was   
   followed from a bus stop into an alley, where Howard forcibly sexually   
   assaulted her, and a June 18, 2014, attack at Signal Hill Park on a woman who   
   fought back and escaped,    
   according to Deputy District Attorney Kelly Kelley.   
      
   Long Beach police detectives obtained a photo of a possible suspect in the   
   Long Beach attack and worked with Signal Hill police after learning of an   
   attack in which the assailant had a similar description, police said.   
      
   Both of the women described their assailant as having a red skateboard with   
   white polka dots, which Howard was in possession of at the time of his arrest   
   on July 3, 2014, according to the prosecutor.   
      
   Eight other charges against Howard were dismissed as a result of his plea.
