   He founded SpreadLove ABQ, a nonprofit that helps troubled youth in   
   Albuquerque.   
      
   Overton is also part of the International District's leadership council, a   
   group dedicated to curbing crime in the area.   
      
   Overton is now behind bars in California after Albuquerque police said his DNA   
   connected him to a rape in Albuquerque in 1997 and another in California in   
   2004.   
      
   Police uncovered the evidence while working to clear a massive rape kit   
   backlog.   
      
   For people like Jeffrey Holland, who worked with Overton on the leadership   
   council, his reaction can be summed up in one word.   
      
   “Shock,” he said.   
      
   While Overton has not been convicted of anything at this time, Holland said   
   it's difficult even hearing someone he knows and worked with is accused of   
   something like this.   
      
   “It's unfortunate when these things happen, period, but when you actually   
   have one degree of separation, then it hits home a little harder,” Holland   
   said.   
      
   Holland said he's been in contact with others who know and have worked with   
   Overton.   
      
   He said this has left an entire community stunned.   
      
   “You get to know people in your community, your peers and people that you   
   work with and work around and collaborate with, so when something like this   
   hits, it hits pretty hard,” Holland said.   
      
   A spokesperson for the district attorney's office in Albuquerque said they are   
   investigating and have interviewed the victim; however, that case will not   
   move forward until after the one in California is complete.   
      
   Overton was arraigned on charges Thursday in California.   
      
   He is being held without bail.   
      
   His next court date has not yet been set.
