   A 22-year-old Pittsburgh man was charged Friday with luring a 7-year-old girl   
   away from her grandmother’s Northview Heights home and then raping the girl   
   in a nearby basement earlier this month.   
      
   Juwan Mitchell, address unknown, faces six felonies and three misdemeanors,   
   including kidnapping, rape and sexual assault. He was taken into custody on   
   Sunday, police spokeswoman Cara Cruz said in an email.   
      
   The girl said in a forensic interview at the Child Advocacy Center at   
   Children’s Hospital on Friday that she was outside of her grandmother’s   
   home in the 100 block of Hazlett Street on Sept. 15 when a man approached her.   
   The girl said the man claimed    
   to be her uncle and asked if she wanted to go to a store, according to a   
   criminal complaint.   
      
   Pittsburgh police identified the man as Mr. Mitchell through surveillance   
   video, according to the complaint, which said officers had “dealt with   
   Mitchell numerous times” and recognized him from the footage.   
      
   The girl went with Mr. Mitchell, believing she was going to go to a store, but   
   he instead took her to an “unknown residence,” according to the complaint.   
   There, he took her into a basement bathroom and raped her, according to the   
   complaint.   
      
   It was not clear from the complaint how long the girl was away from her family   
   or how she was returned home. Police responded to a sexual assault report at   
   the grandmother’s house on Sept. 15, according to the complaint.   
      
   The girl was interviewed on Friday, shortly before charges were filed.   
      
   Mr. Mitchell was previously charged with indecent exposure, disorderly conduct   
   and open lewdness in July; all of the charges were later withdrawn or   
   dismissed. In August 2018, he was charged with making terroristic threats;   
   that case is still pending in    
   Allegheny County Common Pleas Court.
