Additional charges are pending the results of DNA testing, the       sheriff's office said. Baker was in the Volusia County Branch Jail on Monday       without bail.              Baker, who has had multiple run-ins with the law, took a cell phone call while       sexually battering the woman, the sheriff's report said. Florida Department of       Corrections records show he spent five years in prison and was released on       Feb. 28, 2023.              The victim told deputies she was alone in a vehicle outside the motel while       her friends were inside when Baker approached the vehicle, pulled a handgun,       and forced her into the back seat. Baker took the victim's cell phones, and       $15 in cash and ran from        the scene, investigators said.              He was found just before 5 a.m. at a nearby Days Inn. A sheriff's report said       Baker was homeless and living at the Day's Inn with his girlfriend who       deputies spoke with. The victim identified Baker in a photo, deputies said.              The victim's cell phones were found in Baker's room. A pellet gun was also       located.              Baker has a long criminal history dating back to 2008. Florida Department of       Corrections records state Baker spent five years in prison for offenses       committed in 2018 including aggravated battery with a deadly weapon,       aggravated assault with a weapon,        possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, and introducing contraband into a       detention facility.              Daytona Beach police arrest reports in 2018 for Baker show he jumped out of       the bushes at Jesse and Magnolia streets on Aug. 26 and attacked his former       girlfriend's brother. He pulled out a knife and tried to stab the victim who       covered his face with his        hands and got cut in the hand.              When the victim mentioned Baker's name, police noted in the report they were       familiar with him.              "Officers on scene were familiar with (Baker's) name and information due to       recent violent activity involving (Baker) as a suspect attacking the       (victim's) sister," police wrote in the 2018 report.              Police had also previously arrested Baker on Aug, 11 for threatening to shoot       another girlfriend and her children. Baker got angry with the woman after she       asked him to stop using drugs in front of her children in her home, police       said.              While working the Aug. 11 case, Daytona Beach police said they discovered       Baker had 22 felony convictions.              https://www.news-journalonline.com/story/news/local/volusia/2024       12/16/woman-raped-in-car-outside-florida-hotel/77021749007/              --- SoupGate-DOS v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
