(Kalamazoo County Prosecutor's Office/WWMT)              KALAMAZOO, Mich. — A Kalamazoo man turned himself in concluding a       decades-long sexual assault investigation, Michigan Attorney General Dana       Nessel announced Friday.              Shawn Darnell Robinson Hopkins, 37, allegedly gave a 14-year-old alcohol and       marijuana in 2005 before sexually assaulting her, Nessel said.              The girl met Hopkins through a friend only a few hours prior to the assault,       and only knew him by his street name, "Chicago," according to the attorney       general's office.              Hopkins, who has a history of domestic violence with family members and       intimate partners dating back to the early 2000s, discovered he was under       investigation and fled to Chicago following the assault, Nessel said.              He remained hidden under more than 1/2 dozen aliases. However, he was       determined recently through DNA testing, Nessel said.              “The ties between sexual assault and domestic violence are pervasive and       well-documented. This defendant has a track record of multiple violent       assaults, and yet his survivors still had the courage to come forward and       report their experiences to law        enforcement,” Nessel said. “I’m grateful for the continued hard work and       determination of the Kalamazoo SAKI team who help cold cases like this achieve       justice.”              Hopkins was released Thursday on a personal recognizance bond, and will be       arrested and held on $100,000 bond if he fails to appear for court or violates       any of his bond conditions, according to Nessel.              He is expected to appear for a preliminary examination Feb. 21, 2023, at 1: 30       p.m., according to the attorney general's office. He is charged with one count       of first-degree criminal sexual conduct.              The Kalamazoo Sexual Assault Kit Initiative assisted in the investigation.              https://wwmt.com/news/local/kalamazoo-rape-michigan-sexual-assau       t-charge-shawn-hopkins-department-public-safety-police-court              --- SoupGate-DOS v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
