(WMC-TV) - A Memphis woman is shaken after she says she was raped by a
man that she thought she could trust, a family friend. Few homes still
stand in the neighborhood of Tupelo Street and Shasta Avenue in North
Memphis. Most of the area is reduced to rubble, but in one of the homes
still standing, a stomach turning case landed Marcus Dale in the Shelby
County Jail on a rape charge.

According to an affidavit of complaint, the 22-year-old victim is almost
   completely non-verbal due to epilepsy.

Police say, Dale, a family friend, came over to visit and when the
victim went to her bedroom, he followed behind her, locked the door, and
   demanded sex.

Police say, she "told him no, one of the few words she can speak
clearly," but he forced himself on her for several moments.

In the past, rape victim advocates have explained some of the
   post-attack trauma victims suffer.

"Not being able to sleep, not being able to concentrate," said Anna
Whalley of the Shelby County Crime Victims Center. "Sometimes victims
are afraid of retaliation from the rapist. They may know where they
live, particularly if they're raped in their homes."

"A lot of times, victims hope that a crime being solved will give them
complete relief. That doesn't usually happen, but it always helps to
know that someone believes in you and believes that you were indeed a
   victim of crime," added Whalley.

While unable to speak, police say the victim gave investigators a
written statement about what happened and picked Dale out of a photo
   line-up.

Action News 5 tried to stop by the address listed on Dale's arrest
ticket, but it does not exist.
