BELLEVILLE, Ill. — A McDonald's employee was taken into custody after
Belleville police said she shot two people Wednesday evening inside the
   restaurant.

The shooting happened at the McDonald's at 125 South Belt East. The
Belleville Police Department said officers responded shortly before 5 p.m.
and found two people with gunshot wounds.

The employee was taken into custody at the scene, and officers recovered a
   gun.

Both victims were taken to a hospital, where police described their
   conditions as "stable."

Police said the victims and the suspect all knew each other. No additional
   suspects were being sought.

A local McDonald's owner-operator said in a statement, "We are shocked and
saddened by this attack. Our top priority is always the safety and well-
being of our people. Right now, we're focused on providing support to our
restaurant crew and will continue to assist law enforcement in their
   investigation."

The spokesperson said the restaurant was hoping to reopen at 5 a.m.
   Thursday.
