Yep! Virtual Dimension was 'the' BBS in town and the masters! No, they
didn't have Fido - but they did have local threads and they had a
satillite DOWNLOAD ONLY of SOME usenet stuff - but you know that's
not really for communication. :-)

Then The Fridge started and they brought in Intelec and they helped
start a regional list called VOL_NET (Tennessee being the Volunteer
state). There were BBS's in other towns that would have been LD
for me in Tennessee but also in northern Alabama and Mississippi
and I was suddenly communicating with them too! A whole new
world opened up to me and my wife and I took our kids to
Lexington (only about an hour away, but you know back then
the roads weren't all four lane like today - you didn't have
a GPS - etc.) and met a very nice couple from a BBS there.

We met at McDonald's where the kids could play and so the
wife could loan me Insomnia - the Stephen King book. Turns
out he was the sysop there, but of course back then you held
your cards a little close to the vest - kinda like now when
you sell or buy something on FB and you meet the person in
a public place. :-)

... Computer Hacker wanted. Must have own axe.
