I never used a Balum between a rig and antenna.
The coaxs running up in the attic were to a 80M Slinky Antenna, the other one
went out the peak of the gable roof vent to a 20M Inverted Vee.

The 80M antenna was made with four Slinkys.
Two soldered togethered one end to another ones end.
Another pair done the same way with a square piece of Plexiglass inbetween them
for the coax connection.
