Pam J sent in this vintage recipe from "Heinz Book of Salads from 1925": "I haven't tried this recipe, but I thought it was interesting. It's from a time when sardines were a household staple (before canned tuna), and when food companies were creating sometimes odd recipes to promote their products." Sardine Sandwich Remove skin and bones from sardines and mash to a paste with a little Heinz Salad Cream. Add Heinz Sandwich Relish, allowing twice as much Relish as sardine paste. Mix well and spread between buttered slices of whole wheat or white bread. Put a crisp leaf of lettuce on top of sardine mixture just before putting sandwhich together. Serve with plain green salads, Spinach Salad or Tomato Salad." -------------------------- --- BBBS/Li6 v4.10 Dada-2 * Origin: Prism bbs (1:261/38) |
