|  Slow XP  |

Because this XP MCE 2005 SP3 computer has been acting very slow I ran one pass of MEMTEST-86 v4.0a yesterday on it. No problems were found in the RAM. I have been reading a book called Windows XP Annoyances written by David A. Karp and have set both my paging file settings to 9165 which is 3 times the 3GB of DDR RAM I have in the box. I just looked at the Virutal Memory settings and noticed the recommended setting was 4509, but I guess 9165 is better, does that sound right to you? Sometimes when I Log on to my account I see a icon in the Taskbar that looks like a rectangle with a line under it, and a small vertical line in the center joining the rectangle to the underline. I have clicked on it sometimes during the desktop start up and it will vanish and a bit laterthe program "My Computer" opens up. To me it looks like it might be some kind of Network icon? I just looked at Windows Task Manager 81 processes - commit charge: 1594M /12 * SLMR 2.1a #T348 * Micro$oft:The malfunction goes in before the name goes on --- SBBSecho 2.12-Linux * Origin: telnet & http://cco.ath.cx - Dial-Up: 502-875-8938 (1:2320/105.1) |
