I had a 2008 Cheese Grater Mac Pro with an 8Core Xeon..  Yes, the 1KW PSU
really did suck up the power.  If memory serves me a correctly it added about
$90 to the electric bill in San Diego...

The Trashcan was not nearly so bad though.
