From what I saw on a 24" widescreen monitor I wouldn't be surprised.

You need a better connection for that, especially for x264 live streams. 
Perhaps 720p might work best for this idea and/or a mpeg2 instead.  Given that
usb 2.0 was good enough for streaming DVDs then mpeg2 on that particular
connection might be just what the doctor ordered.

That can be done on-the-fly these days.  Definetly something to inquire about.
